The Membership and License Agreement signed between WaterAid India and Jal Seva accords all the necessary rights to Jal Seva to use the WaterAid brand and its name in India. As a result, throughout this TOR, Jal Seva is referred to as WaterAid India.

Purpose

Water Aid is currently seeking Expressions of Interest (EoI) from NGOs (with valid FCRA registration) working in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka for expanding its work to improve the lives of communities and creating self-sustaining WASH solutions.

Preference will be given to NGOs with experience of working in WASH and with implementation experience in Soil and Water Conservation/ Watershed management. Preference will also be given to NGOs based in Nanded and Baramati districts in Maharashtra and in Bangalore district (Kumbalgodu if possible) in Karnataka, currently working there, or having worked there in the past two years.

Background

WaterAid has identified three districts namely Nanded and Baramati districts in Maharashtra and Kumbalgodu in Bangalore district in Karnataka where it can make a significant impact. The program design is focused on working with rural and tribal communities and other stakeholders located in the river basins to find solutions on issues of water conservation, replenishment and restoration, access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

A partnership in these areas would help to mitigate water risks ensuring the long-term and sustainable health of communities and other stakeholders, and reduce uncertainties in associated supply chains. As part of work on drinking water security, the project will include information on high water consumption and help strengthen water management practices. In addition, the project will demonstrate community-based solutions for issues of water conservation, replenishment and restoration thereby increasing evidence base for the local government, enhancing support to replicate and scale up impact.

Description:

The Project approach is also to ensure context specific water supply technologies which will address the local problems around water access and availability and that local stakeholders including the community members are engaged in and will take responsibility for the proper use and management of facilities created.

The three proposed locations for this project struggle with groundwater depletion and fresh water scarcity. According to government data, households in these locations have access to sanitation, however these are typically leach pit toilets that pose a high risk of groundwater contamination.

They have a long-term view of our interventions and would like to build lasting partnerships. This current requirement is till 30th June, 2021. Future commitments are not confirmed as yet but would be worked upon.

Eligibility

The organisations eligible for submitting the expression of interest need to have:

  • Valid FCRA registration
  • Annual budget of approximately Rs. 3 Crore for the last three years
  • Established in Maharashtra and Karnataka (preference will be given to NGOs either based in the districts mentioned in this EOI, currently working there, or having demonstrated presence in these districts in past two years)
