About the Organization:

Mahita is a non-profit social development organization working in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in southern India. Established in 1994 Mahita has specific interventions for children across both the states, particularly the girls empowering them through education and vocational trainings. Since the inception, the organization has adopted the right based approach to work towards socially just and empowered society. The organization is creating opportunities to poor and marginalized with special focus on girls for their development with dignity and respect. Mahita strongly believes that the community participation is the essential part of any right based approach and that leads to the social transformation, and this philosophy is implementing the organization in all its programme areas.

About the Programme:

The Girls Advocacy Alliance (GAA) is a global initiative of Plan International – Plan Netherlands, Terre des Hommes – Netherlands and Defence for Children – ECPAT Netherlands. In India, Plan India is implementing the project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in partnership with Mahita.  The project primarily advocates for addressing Child Marriage and Child Trafficking, and in promoting Secondary Education among girls and Job Oriented Vocational Training (JOVT) for young women in both the states- by addressing 4 key actors i.e Communities, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Government  and Private Sector.  GAA program has been implementing in 6 districts in Telangana (Hyderabad, Vikarabad, Gadwal, Yadadri, Adilabad and Sangareddy) and 3 districts in Andhra Pradesh (Kurnool, Visakhapatnam and Krishna).  The programme closely works with Community, NGO/CSOs, Government and Private Sector in bringing the desired change.

Rationale:

The above project is meaningfully contributing to enhance skills, employability and economic opportunities for the young women targeted states. To strengthen and expand the project activities, there is a need to understand the present market scenario due to the COVID 19 pandemic and subsequently lockdown. In India, the people have gone under complete lockdown to combat the spread of coronavirus, thus there are multiple social, economic and institutional impact on rural and urban population.

There are implications on many sectors including the tourism, hospitality, real estate and aviation . Considering the above situation, there is a need to understand the present labour market situation, identify the key emerging sectors along with skills requirements to match the market demand. The study findings will be helpful to design the marked based training and support mechanism for young women, equip them with specific skills to enhance employability and create economic opportunities in the present scenario.

Objectives:

  • To understand sector-wise workforce requirements and key emerging trends in COVID-19 Era in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State.
  • To forecast sector wise upcoming jobs (in selected sectors) and identifying the key skilling needs to respond the market demand (Formal and Informal Employment) in selected states.
  • To develop a database of sector-wise potential recruiter, list of upcoming jobs opportunities (Job-roles) in selected sectors and skills required for each of the opportunities especially in COVID-19 scenario.
  • To understand the shortage of workforce if any due to reverse migration and immediate requirements of workforce in key sectors e.g. Health Care, Transportation and Logistics, Pharmaceuticals, IT/ITES, Textiles & apparel etc.

Scope of work:

  • Identify the groups of business leaders, sector-wise potential employers, academic institutions and industry led associations in selected sectors for the study. Develop a comprehensive research framework for the study as per the objectives mentioned above.
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis to understand the market situation in COVID-19 era and identify existing and upcoming employment opportunities, different job roles in selected sectors and skills requirements for each opportunities to match the requirements.
  • IT enabled Survey based on structured/ semi structured Questionnaire (70% of the total sample) including the telephonic conversation with potential Employers from different sectors, Industry led associations, institutions and forums.
  • Personal interview (s) (30% of the total sample) at selected locations targeting selected companies based on the potential sectors identified (HR/Operations/ General Managers).
  • Considering the COVID-19 situation, conducting a desk review of literature secondary sources to of information to understand present job market scenario, sector wise demand of workforce, emerging trends and specific skills required to match the market demand. 
  • Presentation of draft and final findings for feedback and further a final report with recommendations and a consolidated Presentation (PPT).

Qualifications, Language and specialized knowledge/experience required:

  • The research organization should have at least 8-10 years’ experience working with private sector/corporate and thorough knowledge on skilling’s needs and market demands. A good understanding of Adolescent’s issues in the wider social development and human rights perspective in related to COVID-19 will add value. Experience of working in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be valuable. The organization should have a team that understands the issues to accomplish the tasks in time and as required.
  • The organization should have excellent English language writing and editing skills, appropriate technical expertise in field research, sustainable capacity and analytical skills to ensure the quality in research and outputs.
  • At least 1 samples of Skilling on Market Demand research work undertaken by the proposed team must be submitted along with the bid.
