About the Organization

Resource Group for Education and Advocacy for Community Health (REACH), established in 1999, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis (TB) in India. The mandate of REACH includes providing high-quality treatment, care, and support for those affected by TB as well as advocacy, research, and education to improve public understanding of TB.

About the Proposal

REACH is currently implementing the Unite to ACT project, supported by the Global Fund through FIND as the Principal Recipient, in ten states - Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Unite to ACT (Amplifying Community action to eliminate TB) prioritises TB Care and Prevention through Community TB Care Delivery. Through the project, community representatives from key affected populations, women, TB survivors, and their family members are engaged and trained to support people with TB, educate communities, and link them to TB services.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the TB response is well documented. In this context, engagement with TB-affected communities and strengthening their communication skills to convey key messages on TB and COVID to their communities is critical. To address this need, in 2020, REACH developed and piloted a communication skilling package for TB survivors-Champions, with support from USAID. TB Champions were trained and equipped with a range of communication skills including public speaking, writing, the use of songs, poems, slogans, wall writing, mobile photography, videography, etc. Post-training, the TB Champions created various communication products, using approved messages on TB and COVID-19.  REACH is currently scaling up this activity under the Unite to ACT project and is looking to partner with an external agency to train and equip 960 TB Champions across 80 districts
