Purpose of Assignment:

For the purpose of monitoring the issues, debates, agendas etc related to children’s issues and specifically UNICEF’s priority issues in both traditional and social media, UNICEF requires the services of an experienced media monitoring agency.

Objectives:

Media and social media monitoring and tracking of adolescent and child rights issues with a focus on UNICEF priority areas that appear in both the English language and vernacular print, electronic, online and social media in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunanchal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

Major Tasks to be Accomplished:

Media (print, TV, online)

  • Monitor and provide real-time data and robust analytics on media coverage in relation to UNICEF’s programmatic and advocacy priorities, humanitarian emergencies and initiatives, as well as issues related to UNICEF’s brand and reputation, and broader trends and developments related to its mission and mandate
  • Provide access to both real-time and historical data and robust analytics to better understand UNICEF’s media performance vis-à-vis key performance indicators, including share of voice, key message penetration, volume of media coverage, quotes from spokespeople, sentiment, prominence, among other key metrics.
  • Generate reports with key trends and insights to present to management teams at UNICEF
  • Monitor English and vernacular (Assamese, Bengali, Manipuri, Hindi etc) media channels on a daily basis to track stories, news-articles, features, and editorials related to UNICEF and/or related to the key priority areas for UNICEF.
  • Health and Routine Immunization: Any news articles/features/opinions on routine immunization/maternal and child health in Assam/NE should be included.
  • Nutrition: Any news articles/features/opinions on Poshan Abhiyan in Assam should be included.
  • Child protection issues: Articles, news, editorials on child and adolescent issues including child labour, child marriage, etc. especially from disadvantaged areas including riverine islands and tea-garden areas.
  • Education: Articles, news, editorials on out of school children, Transition, learning, learning assessment, ECE including roll out of ECE curriculum, quality ECE services in AWCs.
  • A monthly report by the first week of the month highlighting the main stories of the previous month, with a brief analysis on the issues that received most media coverage; story size/length, placement, story treatment; and the tone and nature of the coverage received-including positive or negative stories. Stories related to UN and UNICEF should be mentioned along with an analysis of UN related references. The monthly report should also include relevant periodicals in English and languages. The monthly report should also include a trend analysis. Format for the same to be pre-approved by UNICEF.
  • Monitor ethical and responsible reporting on children. Are media outlets adhering to norms on reporting on children?
  • Develop and maintain a user-friendly system for saving, searching and retrieving news stories themeswise/media-wise, and provide compiled news clips as and when required.
  • Track and report all UNICEF sponsored/ organized events separately in a pre-approved format.

Social Media Listening and Digital Monitoring and Analytics

  • Monitor and analyse hashtags, keywords, topics, and channels relevant to child rights and UNICEF’s programmatic work. The social media analytics should provide in depth data on performance of owned channels and comparative organizations. This must include data and analytics on reach, engagement, share of voice, sentiment, trending posts, etc.
  • Track and analyse metrics for multimedia (photo, video) assets
  • Create immediate and scheduled news alerts, newsletters, and reports
  • Built-in analytic tools, widgets, and reporting features, and the ability to download data and statistics and integrate with Google 360 or Google Analytics and other digital platforms
  • Generate reports with key trends and insights to present to management teams at UNICEF
  • Monitor top 5 FB pages and top 10 Twitter handles (including influencers) from all states that do posts and updates related to UNICEF/UN, COVID, child rights, child protection issues, maternal and child health; child development and nutrition, education; and water, sanitation and hygiene, social development/policy issues, social inclusion, child/adolescent participation and adolescent representation and voices.
  • Social Media Listening Reports - Monitor social conversations and tweets for any mention of UNICEF and children rights related keywords in Assam.
  • Significant, negative and sensitive coverage pertaining to UNICEF, if any, to be informed telephonically by 9am.

Requirements:

  • Agency with 5 years of experience in media monitoring and tracking for print, online and electronic, and social media.
  • Agency to use applicable software for monitoring media and social media (eg. Meltwater, however not limited to just this one).
  • Professional work experience in media/journalism and experience in developing daily media monitoring reports under strict deadlines, and be able to provide samples of previous work.
  • Good understanding of development sector especially issues related to women and children and marginalized communities
  • Experience of working in collaboration with development agencies, preferably with UN agencies, NGOs/INGOs.
  • Proven language skills in English; Assamese, Bengali, Manipuri, and Hindi, among others.
  • Proven documentation skills in English.
  • CVs of qualified personnel to support this project. The vendor needs to assign an account team having technical skills relevant for the assignment. Familiarity with computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and tracking, scanning, reporting, computer/internet skills is a must. Profiles of the team to be shared.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines consistently
