About the Organization:
The Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) launched EPIC-India in 2014 to confront this challenge through cutting-edge research and targeted engagement with local stakeholders. EPIC-India designs and evaluates innovative solutions to energy and environmental problems using cutting-edge research approaches, including randomized control trials. Through rigorous research, EPIC-India generates novel insights and new sources of data, and makes these accessible to the public. EPIC-India works hand-in-hand with government and industry partners to develop and test ideas that could address India’s most pressing energy and environmental challenges. Through these partnerships, EPIC-India aims to turn insights gained through research from India and across the world into public policies that provide lasting benefits EPIC-India translates research findings into easily-digestible content for traditional and new media sources, and provides a forum where energy and environmental challenges can be discussed. Through innovation competitions, seminars and workshops, EPIC-India reaches out to the broader community to develop and nurture new ideas.
Job Position: Technical Lead (Air Pollution)
Job Location: Delhi
Roles and Responsibilities:
- To provide both technical leadership as well as project management support to the Unit, liaise with key stakeholders and provide inputs to the relevant workstreams of the unit.
- To coordinate with experts on the real-time source apportionment studies of air pollutants and other key air pollution mitigation efforts initiated by the GNCTD and ensure their success by:
- Ensuring project adherence to general research design, sample selection, data
management, and general research protocols, and overall project management timelines - Leading overall designing, supervision, and management of surveys/data collection,
including assessing field staff, facilitating contract negotiations, overseeing survey piloting. - Conducting complex data analysis and ensuring data security transmission from data
collection firms to the research team
- Ensuring project adherence to general research design, sample selection, data
- To work with technical experts/scientists and help co-develop a ‘Clean Air Plan’ for Delhi.
- To represent the PMU at technical forums, policy briefings, and events
- To synthesize evidence from GNCTD project streams to identify opportunities for new and innovate applied research opportunities with direct potential to improve Delhi’s air quality.
Required Skills and Experience:
- A Master’s or PhD degree in environmental science/engineering, environmental economics, public health, or public policy. Knowledge of modern impact evaluation techniques and background in econometrics, statistics, and/or survey data collection strongly preferred.
- At least 7 years of full-time professional experience (min 2 years for post doc candidates) in development consulting, think tank, research groups, or government
- Demonstrated knowledge of managing large scale air pollution mitigation projects in implementation or research settings is strongly preferred.
- An experience working with government officials in India is preferred.
- Ability to articulate scientific/technical matters to a non-expert audience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, both in English and Hindi, are required.
