At the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, researchers investigate fundamental questions and current problems of international law, EU law and public law in various countries, together with numerous guest researchers from all over the world. Their library is the largest legal specialty library in Europe and one of the largest in the world.

About the Fellowship:

The Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law invites applications for their MPIL Journalist in Residence Fellowship 2020, offering the opportunity to spend six weeks to three months in an international academic community, to gain deeper insights into fundamental questions and current problems of international law, European Union law and public law and to work without the high pressure of daily deadlines on a freely chosen project.

At the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, scholars pursue research relating to basic issues and current developments in the areas of public international law, European Union law, and the constitutional and administrative law of individual states, together with numerous visiting scholars from all over the world. In its fields, our library is the largest in Europe and one of the most comprehensive in the world.

The MPIL Journalist in Residence Fellowship enables journalists with several years of experience to spend between six weeks and three months at the Institute. The time and duration of the stay will be agreed individually (between May and December 2020). MPIL Journalists in Residence are free to pursue their own research. They are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to exchange ideas with our researchers and to participate in our various work and discussion formats.

Eligibility Criteria:

The MPIL Journalist in Residence Fellowship is geared towards freelance and staff journalists from all media (print, online, radio, television) who report and write regularly on legal and constitutional topics, or topics from politics, the economy and research related topics.

Grant: A research grant of €3,000 per month is offered for the duration of the stay. The Institute provides desk space and access to all research resources of the Institute's library.
