CMS invites applications for 2019 Media Fellowship on Road Safety supported by WHO India

Centre for Media Studies(CMS) supported by The World Health Organization (WHO) India invite journalists to apply for a three-month fellowship program to work on road safety issues. The programme is open to journalists working in print, electronic and digital media (in Hindi, English & Kannada).

Objective

The objective of the fellowship program is to strengthen journalists’ capacities to create the awareness through informed reporting and effectively contributing to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on Indian roads.

Conscious efforts will be made to provide information on solution and data driven journalism.

The media program

A total of 12 journalists will be selected for the program from Delhi-NCR and Karnataka. The fellowship period will be for three months, from September to November 2019. The selected journalists will be expected to produce research-based stories for the print, Radio, TV and online medium on Road Safety.

The first best story will be awarded the cash prize of Rs 50,000. Second will be Rs 30,000 and third will get Rs 20,000 as an award. All other selected fellows will get fellowship grant of Rs 10,000 each.

The selection of the best stories will be decided by the jury members and their decision will be final.

Programme engagement

The fellows will be expected to:

  • Produce at least one story per month for the period of three months
  • Participate in two workshops and one field visit conducted by CMS 
  • Brief report/presentation regarding their work at the end of the Fellowship period 

Who can apply?

  • Applicants should have past experience of writing on road safety/health/crime and road & transport and other related issues
  • Freelancers are eligible to apply, provided they fulfil other conditions

How to apply?

Applicants must submit the following items to mediaapplications@cmsindia.org by August 15, 2019.

 1. A 300 words proposal outlining innovative, investigative, data and solution centric story ideas

2. One-page customized CV (containing information on work experience, approximate number of stories published/broadcast and educational qualifications)

3. Copies of work published in newspapers or on website or portals/broadcast in the last six months.
