Background

India is a Party to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and for fulfilling its obligations, country has prepared its National Biodiversity Action Plan (NBAP) in 2008.The NBAP has been aligned with the strategic Plan for 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has developed 12 National Biodiversity Targets (NBTs) along with indicators, in consultation with concerned Ministries/Departments, and brought out in the form of Addendum 2014 to National Biodiversity Action Plan (NBAP) 2008. To achieve these NBTs and to align biodiversity conservation efforts in the States with the NBAP, there has been a need for the preparation of a State-level biodiversity action plan for State level implementation.

The Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board, a statutory body set up by the Government of Maharashtra, took up the task of preparing the Maharashtra State Biodiversity Strategy & Action Plan (MSBSAP). The preparation of the MSBSAP is supported as a part of the GoI-UNDP Project on Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). 

Corporate/industry engagement through public-private partnership is one of the components proposed in the MSBSAP to address the resource and finance mobilization needs for biodiversity conservation in Maharashtra. In this context, UNDP plans host a corporate biodiversity event to understand the CSR priorities of the corporate sector and to find synergies with the strategies proposed in the MSBSAP.

To support the BIOFIN Maharashtra project in the corporate partnership process, the Project intends to engage the services of an intern. The intern will support the Project in day-to-day tasks leading up to the corporate event planned in mid-end October 2019 and shall report to the Technical Associate, BIOFIN Maharashtra. 

Specific tasks will include but not be limited to: 

1. Support towards the planning and organisation of meetings and events, including logistics and administrative support.
2. Planning and management for the corporate biodiversity event planned in the month of October 2019.
3. Assist in communication outreach: draft communications material, letters, reports, briefings, agendas and review and edit content for websites and social media.
4. Provide substantive inputs and recommendations for enhancing the engagement with the private sector and enhancing private sector commitments for biodiversity conservation in Maharashtra.
5. Any other assistance as deemed appropriate under the BIOFIN Maharashtra Project.

Competencies 

Communication: Ability to draft clearly and concisely, good written and oral language skills. Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different backgrounds to achieve organizational goals. 

Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be ‘clients’ and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view. 

Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required. 

Technical Skills: Social media platforms like Facebook, twitter, Instagram, designing tools, MS office suite, google tools. 

Required Skills and Experience 

Graduation or Enrolment in Development Studies, Social Work or any other relevant field. A keen interest in working in the development sector is a requisite.

Fluency in written and oral English. Knowledge of Hindi and Marathi is desirable. 

Excellent knowledge and skills in computer applications of MS Office and web applications.

Applicants are NOT required to have professional work experience. 

Note: The successful candidate must arrange for their own laptop, phone and internet connectivity.  

Certificate of Internship / Letter of Recommendation will be provided from BIOFIN Maharashtra Programme on successful completion of the duties assigned.
