M.A. in Development Studies

IIT Mandi invites applications from interested candidates for admission in two year 'M.A. in Development Studies' program starting from August 2018. The candidates are requested to fill in the online application form http://oas.iitmandi.ac.in/admission

Eligibility Criteria for Application:

• Candidates with Bachelor Degree (e.g. B.A. /B.Sc. in Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Public Policy, Environmental Science or equivalent discipline; or B.Tech. /B.E. or equivalent)from a recognized University or Institute are encouraged to apply.
• Candidates should have at least 55% marks (or 6.0 CGPA on a scale 10)in their qualifying examination to apply for admission to the program. Students belonging to reserved categories will get a relaxation as per institute rules.
• Applicants appearing/appeared in the final year of their qualifying exam with results awaited are also eligible to apply. However, their final selection will be contingent on production of final mark/grade sheet satisfying minimum marks.

Mode of Selection:

• All the applications received will undergo the shortlisting process. The list of all shortlisted candidates will be displayed on IIT Mandi website. No separate letter/email communication will be sent individually.
• All shortlisted candidates are required to appear for Written Test and Personal Interview which will be conducted as per the details below.

• The course offers multi-disciplinary approach and foregrounds issues and challenges of development in Himalayan region.
• A combination of rigorous and relevant courses with exposure to real-world development challenges.
• Understanding the basic scientific and technological underpinning of some of the developmental challenges and their existing remedies.
• A mandatory Field Study component to understand the laboratory of Development Studies.
• Participatory research through components of dissertation/guided internship.
• Ability to communicate the results to a range of stakeholders: academia, professionals in policy making and implementation, local communities etc.
