New Concept Centre for Development Communication (NCCDC) with technical support from UNICEF, is offering online courses around Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC).The SBCC courses are based on the TARANG SBCC training package, conceptualized and guided by a core team from UNICEF, ICO along with communication experts. The SBCCe-Training Hub provides post-training support to those who successfully complete the course, thus assuring a learning continuum.

The Courses cater to the needs of flagship public programme managers, communication officers, NGO partners, students, researchers, educators, CSR professionals, public and private health sector professionals and IAS aspirants among others.

About the courses

A. Foundation Course on Social and Behaviour Change Communication

Effective communication interventions are an important feature of public health programming and programming of any sector in social development. Here, we will use the example of the health sector.

It has been proved that appropriate communication interventions are helpful in bringing desired improvement in access and uptake of public health services. Thus, it is essential for managers to understand the science and theory of communication for the design and implementation of communication programmes. It not only helps in understanding different dimensions of effective services but also helps in demand generation and increasing participation of stakeholders.

This short course aims at increasing basic understanding of Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC).At the end of each session, a test has been included to help self-assessment.

The module consists of five sessions

1. Theories of Development Communication with Linkage of Development Theories with Socio Ecological Model
2. Changing Paradigms in Development Communication
3. Socio Ecological Model 
4. Behaviour Change Communication
5. Qualities of a Communicator

B. Social Inclusion in Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC)

It is extremely important for those working in the field of social development to understand social inclusion and its relevance to interventions in any development sector. A well designed intervention addresses both economic and social vulnerabilities, provides comprehensive packages of interventions based on a population’s needs and context and frames socially inclusive strategies within a broader set of social and economic policies that promote human development and growth and dignity of life. Social inclusion, therefore is to reach out to the poorest and to include the marginalised in development interventions, to combat discrimination.

The Social Inclusion in SBCC course will help participants design and implement interventions that will include the participation and decisions of socially marginalised groups and communities.

The module consists of three sessions

1. A presentation on social inclusion;
2. Simulated game on social inclusion; and
3. Gender inclusion
