About the Organization

Created in 2004, EJN is now a truly global network of reporters and media outlets in virtually every region of the world.

Environmental and climate change reporting is now more urgent than ever, but journalists face myriad and mounting challenges in covering these topics. The media industry is in crisis, and misinformation is on the rise. Reporters working for cash-strapped news agencies often don't have the resources to research a story properly; freelancers, even less so. That’s where EJN comes in.

About the Event

What are the impacts of climate change on India’s private sector? How much does the private sector contribute to this crisis, and what are businesses doing about it? In particular, what actions are high-emitting sectors like steel and cement taking to reduce their emissions?

What role does ESG play in the South Asian context? What is the role of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, or MSMEs, in climate mitigation? What are carbon markets, and what should communicators understand to better investigate instances of corporate greenwashing? What new business opportunities are emerging as a response to the climate crisis?

These questions and many more will be discussed with experts at a five-day virtual communicators’ workshop to improve the quality and quantity of reportage on the crucial transition to clean energy and clean mobility.

The workshop will be online from 10 am to 12 noon every day (India time) from December 8 to 12.

The aim is to improve our understanding of these issues that are becoming more important to our coverage every day, and to develop contacts with experts we can go back to. The sessions will be structured as part-presentation and part-discussion.

Here are the main themes of each day:

  • Day 1—Climate change and corporate India
  • Day 2—Climate change and industrial sectors
  • Day 3—Carbon markets
  • Day 4—New business opportunities
  • Day 5—Climate finance: international and domestic

Eligibility

Applications are open to communicators working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) from all types of organizations—community-based, local national and international from anywhere in India. We welcome applications from freelancers and staff members. We especially encourage women, rural, Indigenous and early-career journalists to apply.

Applicants are required to be transparent about the use of generative AI tools, if any, to revise their proposals. EJN reserves the right to disqualify applicants from consideration if they have been found to have engaged in unethical or improper professional conduct, including, but not limited to, submitting AI-generated content as their own.
