About the Organization

The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) is a non-governmental organisation that builds on communication rights in order to promote social justice. Today, we offer guidance and support to people of all faiths, ethnicities, and cultures worldwide.

We believe that everyone has the right to communicate and to be in communication, in the same way that they have the right to food, shelter, and security. In strategic alliances, we aim to be a catalyst for change for the common good, sharing information, knowledge, and experience in the field of communication.

WACC has members in 120 countries. Working with them at local, national, and regional levels, we address communication needs, strengthen capacities, advocate for communication rights, and tackle ongoing challenges such as the need for gender-sensitive reporting, peace-building, and participatory communication for development.

About the Grant

Migration and Communication Rights Program:

WACC is seeking civil society partners in DAC-listi countries in the Middle East, the Caribbean and the Pacific interested in implementing year-long projects that:

  • Promote migrants’ right to access to information and to freedom of expression by establishing networks of migrant citizen journalists, especially using a “constructive journalism” approachii; and/or
  • Enhance the capacity of migrant groups to monitor the ways migration issues are covered in the media and to build relationships with media organizations in order to promote a rights-based narrative of migration.

This is a highly competitive call. WACC will support only up to five (5) projects under this call, two (2) in the Caribbean, two (2) in the Middle East, and one (1) in the Pacific.

Broadly speaking, projects supported under this theme will align with SDG 16- Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, SDG 10- Reduced Inequalities, as well as with 2030 Agenda as a whole as migration is a cross-cutting theme. They will also align with the goals of the UN Global Compact for Migration, particularly objective 17: “Eliminate all forms of discrimination and promote evidence-based public discourse to shape perceptions of migration”.

If selected, WACC will contribute up to EUR 10,000 to the project’s budget. Selected organizations are free to look for additional funding to complement WACC’s contribution of they wish to, though this is not mandatory.

Gender and Communication Rights Program:

WACC seeks civil society partners in DAC-listi countries interested in implementing yearlong projects to monitor digital news media using a methodology and tools adapted from WACC’s Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP). Projects may focus on one of three thematic news topics:

  • Conflict, peace and security reporting,
  • Journalism on gender-based violence,
  • Climate change

This is a highly competitive call. WACC will support only up to five (5) projects under this call. Only those in the DAC list of countries are eligible to receive international cooperation funding.

If selected, WACC will contribute up to EUR 13,000 to the project’s budget. Selected organizations are free to look for additional funding to complement WACC’s contribution of they wish to, though this is not mandatory.

Projects selected under this call will align with any of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Communication Rights in a Digital Age Program:

WACC is seeking civil society partners in DAC-listi countries in Africa and the Middle East interested in implementing year-long projects that:

  • Support digital media literacy among marginalized and excluded communities, especially in order to counter the phenomenon of online disinformation and misinformation;
  • Support community-initiated efforts to develop and/or manage telecommunications infrastructure; and
  • Create opportunities for civil society to participate in digital policy making processes. This is a highly competitive call.

WACC will support only up to two (2) projects under this call, one in Africa and one in the Middle East.

Projects supported under this theme will align with SDG 9- Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; SDG 16- Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions; and SDG 17- Partnership for the Goals. Elements related to media literacy align with SDG 4- Quality Education.

If selected, WACC will contribute up to EUR 10,000 to your organization’s project budget. Selected organizations are free to look for additional funding to complement WACC’s contribution of they wish to, though this is not mandatory.

Climate Change and Communication Rights Program:

WACC is seeking civil society partners in DAC-listi countries in Africa, Latin America (specifically in Bolivia and Venezuela), and the Middle East interested in implementing yearlong projects that:

  • Enable and build the capacity of communities at the grassroots level to use traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) to enhance local climate change mitigation strategies; and/or
  • Support the development of networks of environmental citizen journalists and/or grassroots reporters engaged in local “constructive”ii journalism, particularly those working to raise broader awareness about environmental issues, local and traditional knowledge, and climate adaptation/mitigation.

This is a highly competitive call. WACC will support only up to three (4) projects under this call: one (1) in Africa, one (1) in the Middle East, and two in Latin America (one (1) in Bolivia and one (1) in Venezuela).

If selected, WACC will contribute up to EUR 10,000 to the project’s budget. Selected organizations are free to look for additional funding to complement WACC’s contribution of they wish to, though this is not mandatory.

Projects supported under this theme will align with SDG 16- Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, SDG 13- Climate Action, and the objectives of the Paris Agreements.

In addition to the grant for a year-long project, partners may be eligible to receive the following forms of support as part of their partnership with WACC:

  • Opportunity to attend a knowledge sharing event organized by WACC on the theme of sustainable development and media/communication (pending travel restrictions);
