About the Organization
Britannia Nutrition Foundation (BNF) is a reputed not-for-profit entity committed to improving health and nutrition outcomes for marginalized communities across India. As part of its broader strategy to address maternal and child malnutrition, the organization is launching a project ‘Making Nutrition Aspirational’ in Nandurbar District, Maharashtra — a region with a predominantly tribal population and significant nutritional and socio-economic challenges.
To establish a programmatic baseline and inform evidence-driven interventions, BNF invites proposals from qualified research agencies to undertake a comprehensive Baseline Assessment.
Scope of Work
The objective of the Baseline Assessment is to generate quantitative and qualitative insights across key domains that impact adolescent, maternal and child nutrition. The assessment will include, but not be limited to, the following components:
- Nutritional Status Assessment
- Measure anthropometric indicators (height, weight, MUAC) for children under 5 years children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
- Identify prevalence of undernutrition (stunting, wasting, underweight) & overweight/obesity and anaemia where applicable.
- Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP)
- Assess household-level knowledge, beliefs, and practices related to diet, feeding, care practices, hygiene, care-seeking, and health behaviours.
- Access to Services
- Evaluate access to and utilization of ICDS, public health services (including NHM, POSHAN Abhiyaan), food security programs, and community outreach services.
- Socioeconomic Profile and Household Assets
- Profile household demographics, education, water & sanitation, food security, and access to basic infrastructure.
- Livelihoods and Water Resource Mapping
- Identify primary and secondary livelihood patterns among rural/tribal households, including seasonal migration, agriculture, wage labor, animal husbandry, and forest-based activities.
- Assess current employment opportunities and viable livelihood options for women and youth.
- Landscaping of interventions available / ongoing for livelihood, water resources, employment, rural & tribal development, agriculture, animal husbandry etc.
- Map existing water resources, their accessibility, reliability, and influence on health, hygiene, agriculture, and nutrition.
- Qualitative Research
- Conduct focus group discussions (FGDs) and key informant interviews (KIIs) with community members, frontline workers, local leaders, and administrators to explore social norms, gender roles, service delivery bottlenecks, and programmatic opportunities.
- Recommendations
- Provide actionable recommendations for tailoring interventions on nutrition, livelihoods, water security, and service access to the local context.
Deliverables: (Timelines: not more than 45 days)
- Finalized study design, sampling framework, and translated tools- 7 Days
- Field team recruitment and training plans- 7 days
- Cleaned datasets and data analysis outputs (with codebooks) (both qualitative & quantitative)- 15 days
- Draft baseline reports in English with disaggregated findings (by block, age group, gender, etc.)- 10 days
- Infographics and slide deck for dissemination- 5 days
- Presentation to BNF and district stakeholders
- Final baseline report submission
Eligibility Criteria
Proposals are invited from organizations with:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in public health, nutrition, livelihood, water, rural development and socio-economic surveys
- Proven ability to conduct anthropometry and qualitative research in tribal/rural settings
- Past experience working in Maharashtra (preferably Nandurbar or similar tribal/rural part)
- Adequate staffing and field presence, with strong local language proficiency (Marathi/Bhili preferred)
- Valid registration, PAN, GST (if applicable), and sound financial standings/ audited records
Proposal Submission Requirements
Agencies must submit:
- Technical Proposal with detailed methodology, team composition, work plan, and quality assurance measures
- Financial Proposal (as per prescribed format) with breakup of costs and taxes
- Organizational credentials, CVs of key staff, past project summaries, and compliance documents
- Signed declaration on absence of conflict of interest
Selection Process
- Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of experience, methodology, technical soundness, team composition, local contextual understanding, and cost-efficiency.
- Technical proposal carries 80% weight; financial proposal carries 20% weight.
- Only technically qualified proposals will undergo financial evaluation.
