In Asia, ChildFund operates in India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

To effectively communicate our specialized work and attract potential donors and impact investors at the upcoming AVPN Conference, ChildFund International requires the development of concise, impactful sector-wise briefs. These briefs will serve as key informational assets, highlighting our specific achievements and investment opportunities within each thematic area.

This Terms of Reference (TOR) outlines the scope of work for an experienced Communications Consultant with experience in marketing communication and/or fundraising to create high-quality, engaging, and persuasive sector-wise briefs.

Objective of the Consultancy

The primary objective of this consultancy is to develop a set of professional and compelling sector-wise briefs that effectively communicate ChildFund International's impact, capacity, and investment opportunities to potential donors and investors.. Each brief must clearly highlight our work within a specific vertical (health, education, environmental sustainability, or online safety) and explicitly emphasize how gender equality is integrated as a cross-cutting theme throughout our interventions in that sector.

Scope of Work

The selected consultant will be solely responsible for the following key tasks:

Information Collection and Content Strategy: * Collect necessary information from relevant internal stakeholders (e.g., program leads, MsE team, communications in Country Offices) through document requests and interviews (where needed). This information will pertain specifically to the health, education, environmental sustainability, and online safety programs. 

  • Thoroughly review existing organizational documents, and available data relevant to each sector.
  • Familiarize with ChildFund International's specific approach to gender equality as a cross-cutting theme across all thematic areas.
  • Interview and/or collaborate with internal teams to identify key messages, compelling impact stories, and data points specific to each sector brief, ensuring the integration of gender equality narratives and data where applicable.
  • Develop a clear content plan and narrative flow for each individual sector-wise brief.

Sector-Wise Brief Development: * Design and develop individual, concise sector- wise briefs (e.g., 2-4 pages each) for the following verticals:

  • Health Brief: Focusing on specific health programs, impact, and opportunities.
  • Education Brief: Highlighting key education initiatives, outcomes, and funding needs.
  • Environmental sustainability Brief: Showcasing climate action projects, environmental impact, and relevant sustainable opportunities.
  • Online Safety Brief: Detailing programs, reach, and impact in promoting digital literacy and safer online environments.

Each brief must:

  • Clearly articulate the specific problem(s) addressed within that sector.
  • Present ChildFund International's unique solution(s) and core programs in that sector.
  • Showcase quantifiable and qualitative impact data relevant to the sector.
  • Explicitly highlight how gender equality is integrated into the programs of that specific sector, providing gender-disaggregated data and examples where applicable.
  • Detail relevant organizational capacity and specific investment opportunities for that sector.

Optional Add-On: Facilitation of a “Pitch Lab”/Hackathon for the development of Investment ready Concept Note .

  • The Pitch Lab is optional and contingent on separate planning/resources. It involves a 1–2 day virtual session with COs to unearth new ideas.
  • The consultant would facilitate, support ideation, and work with the country offices to develop a 3–5 investment-ready ideas/concept notes (max 2 pages each). The concept notes would reflect thematic alignment, gender integration, and a donor-oriented framing.

Review and Refinement: * Incorporate feedback from ChildFund International's teams through iterative review cycles for each brief.

Ensure all content is accurate, compelling, consistent, and adheres to organizational messaging and branding guidelines.

Deliverables

The consultant will be responsible for delivering the following:

  • Work Plan: Detailing the consultant's approach to the TOR, proposed methodology, timeline for each brief, and content strategy.
  • Draft   Sector-Wise   Briefs:  Complete   drafts   of   the   Health,           Education, Environmental sustainability, and Online Safety briefs for review.
  • Final Sector-Wise Briefs: Final, edited and proofread versions of each of the Health, Education, Environmental sustainability, and Online Safety briefs.
  • 3–5 Investment-Ready Concept Notes (1–2 pages each), developed from a facilitated Pitch Lab with Country Offices.
  • Final Report: A brief report summarizing the consultancy process, challenges, and recommendations for future communications.

Timeline

The consultancy is expected to commence by July 15, 2025 and conclude by August 30, 2025. A detailed work plan with specific deadlines for each brief will be agreed upon at the commencement of the consultancy.

Consultant Qualifications

The ideal consultant should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Proven Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrable experience in developing concise communication materials, impact reports, or program briefs for non-profit organizations, social enterprises, or similar entities.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with a strong ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and persuasive narratives suitable for short briefs.
  • Understanding of Social Impact Sector: Demonstrated understanding of the social impact, philanthropy, and impact investing landscape.
  •  Subject Matter Knowledge:

    • Familiarity with global development challenges in health, education, and environmental sustainability.
    • Understanding of online safety issues, digital rights, and related interventions is desirable.
  • Data Interpretation: Ability to interpret and present quantitative and qualitative data effectively through compelling visuals and narratives in a brief format.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills and ability to manage timelines and deliver high-quality outputs efficiently.
  • Required: Experience in creating marketing pitches, email marketing, and broader digital marketing campaigns.

Reporting and Communication

The consultant will report directly to Sr. Advisor- Lead Communication for Asia Region. Regular check-in meetings will be scheduled to review progress, provide feedback, and address any challenges for each brief. The consultant will be expected to be highly responsive to communication from ChildFund International team.

Payment Schedule

Payment will be disbursed upon successful completion and acceptance of deliverables and mutually decided disbursement schedule.

Intellectual Property

All materials produced during the course of this consultancy, including but not limited to reports, briefs, designs, and content, shall remain the intellectual property of ChildFund International. The consultant shall not use or disseminate any of these materials without the prior written consent of ChildFund International.

Confidentiality

The consultant shall maintain strict confidentiality of all information, documents, and data accessed during the course of this consultancy.

  1. Technical Proposal: Outlining their understanding of the TOR, proposed methodology for developing the sector-wise briefs, and detailed work plan.
  2. Financial Proposal: Indicating the total lump sum fee for the consultancy, inclusive of all taxes and expenses.
  3. Consultant CV/Portfolio: Highlighting relevant experience and samples of previous similar work (especially concise briefs, impact summaries, or sector- specific documents).
