About the Organization
We aim to solve the problem of lack of aspiration, career awareness, job readiness skills, and opportunities for youth in the poorest districts of Bihar. Our current work focuses on:
- Mobilising, counseling, and connecting youth to upwardly mobile opportunities.
- Nurturing local youth leaders who create an enabling enviroment for change
- Running eArthshala, our rural R&D campus for sustainable development ideas
Job Description
We aim to slowly but surely build a team made up of alumni who embody our values and who represent social mobility. Getting to this point requires working with the rest of the senior leadership team to articulate our values and put them into action, including in our policies, code of conduct, performance management systems, and cultural rituals. Key challenges and questions you will have to grapple with include:
- How do we weigh that which directly supports our mission with desires and aspirations of teammates which are not always directly aligned?
- How do we build leadership across the team which is empathetic and understanding yet which also holds teammates accountable for performance?
- How do we structure the team, including entry points and trajectories, to not only fill short-term requirements, but also to create a leadership pool for the future?
Job Responsibilities
Culture Building & Organizational Development
- Cultivate and steward a culture rooted in trust, inclusion, empathy, and accountability.
- Design and evolve rituals, internal communication systems, and spaces for team reflection and feedback.
- Build shared understanding of organizational values that span across different teams.
Leadership & Team Development
- Facilitate leadership development across the organization through coaching, mentoring, and structured learning.
- Strengthen managerial capacity through targeted training and leadership circles.
- Partner with the Leadership Team and Program Heads to co-create individual and team development plans.
Talent Management
- Lead workforce planning, recruitment, and retention aligned with strategic priorities.
- Build pipelines for diverse, mission-aligned talent through partnerships and outreach.
- Design and oversee onboarding processes that help new hires integrate meaningfully.
Performance Management
- Design and facilitate performance management cycles that balance feedback, reflection, and accountability.
- Set up systems for 1-on-1s, OKRs/KPIs, and regular developmental check-ins.
- Coach managers and team leads on performance conversations and growth planning.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Oversee HR policies and systems related to contracts, compensation, benefits, leaves, and documentation.
- Ensure legal and statutory compliance related to employment and workplace norms.
- Work closely with the Finance team to manage salaries, reimbursements, and audits.
Learning, Knowledge & Systems
- Build and oversee the creation of organizational learning systems, including knowledge repositories, onboarding tools, and playbooks.
- Integrate MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) insights into people systems to continuously improve.
- C. Champion cross-team learning by creating spaces for reflection, storytelling, and practice-sharing.
Conflict resolution & well-being
- Serve as a trusted resource for conflict mediation, feedback facilitation, and interpersonal challenges.
- Design and implement well-being practices that support emotional and mental health.
- Actively build and sustain a workplace that is safe, inclusive, and responsive to diverse needs.
Strategic inputs & organizational growth
- Participate in annual and multi-year strategic planning from a people-systems lens, including providing budgetary inputs.
- Identify emerging organizational needs and proactively build systems and structures to meet them.
- Collaborate with directors of Programs, Communications, and Fundraising to align people systems with programmatic and institutional growth.
Responsibilities as a part of the Leadership Team
- Strategic Direction & Goal Setting
- Shape and align organizational priorities across long- and short-term horizons, ensuring
- programs and support functions move in sync.
Finance & Fundraising
- Contribute programmatic and functional inputs into financial projections, budgeting, and donor conversations.
Communications & Learning
- Ensure programs and functions feed into strong communications, learning, and evaluation systems to improve impact and visibility.
Leadership & Talent
- Support recruitment, development, and retention of senior leadership teammates; serve as a role model and mentor across the organization.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- A seasoned People/OD/HR leader with 10–12 years of experience in people management, OD, or HR (preferably with time in mission-driven and/or rural contexts). Deeply aligned with the values of dignity, equity, curiosity, and service.
- A strong communicator, facilitator, and coach. Able to design and lead systems while staying grounded in day-to-day team realities.
- Experience in grassroots organizations, social enterprises, or startups with strong culture and people systems. Comfortable navigating ambiguity, change, and diverse stakeholder perspectives.
- Familiarity with digital tools (e.g., HRIS, project management tools, Miro, Google Workspace).
- Formal education in management, HR, organizational development, psychology, or related fields (optional).
