Job Description
NRDC is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our India team to advance health-focused projects across our teams. In the role of Health Specialist, the team member will contribute to advancing NRDC India’s climate and environmental health initiatives through high-quality research, writing, and project coordination. The role entails conducting literature reviews, synthesizing scientific evidence, engaging with partners, and collaborating with India and U.S. teams to develop evidence-based strategies to support climate-environment-health goals. This position is expected to operate under moderate supervision and direction.
Job Responsibilities

- Help to advance projects across the India office as they relate to environmental health
- Support the health and science team with literature reviews, writing and editing, project management, partner engagement
- Collaborate with the India Office on joint climate-environment-health goals, work with the U.S. teams in the Science Office and Environmental Health to strengthen intuitional approaches towards environmental health challenges.
- Assist senior personnel in synthesizing health science evidence for use in strategic communications, fundraising proposals, and reports to internal and external stakeholders
- Support the maintenance NRDC India’s reference library and stay informed on recent scientific advances related to the team’s work areas
- Monitor and assist with progress on health and science projects with external partners
- Contribute to a culture at NRDC India that supports evidence-based decision-making, project monitoring and evaluation, and furtherance of our health goals
- Draft talking points, event summaries, and meeting notes
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health or equivalent related experience
- Relevant/related fields include epidemiology, public health, health policy
- 3-5 years of previous work experience in writing and editing, data collection and scientific analysis, public speaking, oral advocacy with decision-makers, and policy advocacy and design.
- Relevant/ related experience includes: publication of scientific work in peer-reviewed journals and other formats, participation in scientific meetings, scientific collaborations with community-based organizations, experience with data interpretation and visualization
Skills, Abilities, Competencies
- Subject matter expertise in Indian public health topics (e.g., air and water contamination, extreme heat, urban and rural health issues)
- Strong oral, written, and visual communication skills
- Ability to independently conceive, execute, and summarize a scientific literature review
- Experience summarizing peer-reviewed scientific studies
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams
- Solutions-oriented mindset
- Ability to manage projects effectively to meet internal and external deadlines
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment
