About the Organization

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water is one of Asia’s leading not-for-profit policy research institutions. CEEW uses data, integrated analysis, and strategic outreach to explain – and change – the use, reuse, and misuse of resources.

Job Description

We are looking for a self-driven Finance Officer who can take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. This person will play a pivotal role in ensuring nothing gets stuck at the top by becoming a dependable middle layer within the team. The Finance Officer will drive execution, bring clarity to ambiguity, and lead through trust and example.

This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, committed to excellence, and eager to grow into a future leadership position. You will support a high-performance finance function that underpins CEEW’s mission in the energy and environment space.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation and monitoring of project budgets.
  • Assist in donor fund tracking, grant utilisation, and reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate statutory compliance (FCRA, GST, TDS, etc.)
  • Assist in payroll processing, vendor payments, and reconciliations.
  • Identify bottlenecks and proactively solve problems before escalation
  • Create systems and processes where they don’t yet exist.
  • Contribute to automation, migration, and digital improvement efforts.
  • Handle data management in tools like Zoho Books, Excel, and Google Workspace
  • Participate in internal audits and respond to audit queries
  • Bring structure to ambiguity and support clean, efficient execution
  •  Keeping a close watch on the Council’s statutory compliance.
  • Close coordination with the HR and Admin team related to financial matters.
  • All other supporting tasks

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or related field (essential)
  • Professional qualifications (CA Inter, M. Com, or MBA Finance) preferred.

Experience

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a non-profit, CSR, or development sector context
  • Experience handling donor compliance, statutory filings, and internal processes.
  • Exposure to Zoho Books, Tally, or similar systems.

Technical Skills

  • Strong command of Excel, Google Sheets, PPT’s and Storytelling tools.
  • Working knowledge of GST, TDS, FCRA, and Income Tax.
  • Comfortable creating financial reports and PowerPoint summaries for decision-makers.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Self-driven with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Go-getter mindset with high ownership of work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Able to lead by example and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to turn vague asks into structured outputs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • We value initiative, clarity, consistency, and calm execution under pressure.
