Job Description
The Senior Associate will support the growth of Villgro’s partnerships and fundraising efforts by identifying, cultivating, and managing relationships with funders, corporates, and ecosystem partners.
The role spans across the entire fundraising funnel from market research and lead generation to proposal development, with support in engagement, stewardship, closing deals and contracting.
The role requires a genuine interest in social impact with experience in at least a few of the following sectors: Climate, Waste, Water, Livelihoods, Healthcare, Agriculture, and Gender. An added bonus is if the individual brings a broad understanding of the innovation and startup ecosystem in India, and is open to learning emerging approaches in blended finance, market access, and rural–urban economic transitions.
Job Responsibilities
Lead Generation & Positioning
- Prepare short concept notes, decks, and thought pieces for outreach.
- Conduct market research and donor mapping to identify aligned funding opportunities (CSR, philanthropy, multilaterals, DFIs, foundations).
- Represent Villgro at conferences, roundtables, and networking events.
- Initiate outreach to donors, corporates, and ecosystem stakeholders.
Engagement & Proposal Development
- Support donor meetings and presentations in coordination with the Manager.
- Support with draft of proposals, budgets, and concept notes.
- Collaborate with internal teams (finance, sector, leadership) to align program designs.
- Maintain ongoing communication with prospective partners through updates and insights.
Support in Closing & Stewardship
- Support with handovers of projects to internal teams.
- Assist in reviewing MoUs, grant agreements, and contracts with donors.
- Contribute to donor engagement and long-term relationship building.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Adaptive learner with curiosity and critical thinking to understand social impact and innovation.
- Strong communication, documentation and presentation skills with relationship-building, collaboration, and cross-functional influence.
- Result-oriented with ownership, prioritisation and focus on delivering positive impact.
Good to have:
- 2–3 years of experience in fundraising, partnerships, CSR, or related roles.
- Exposure to social impact themes such as climate, livelihoods, healthcare, agriculture, gender.
- Familiarity with the startup/innovation ecosystem in India.
- Knowledge (or willingness to learn) about blended finance, market access, and rural–urban transitions.
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to travel nationally at short notice for meetings, events, and donor visits.
- Ability to work with multiple teams and manage deadlines with ownership.
- Available for immediate onboarding.
