About the Organization

India Health Action Trust was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. The Trust is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use program science to optimise and scale public health programs while partnering with the governments and communities.

Job Description

Senior MER Associate-Gender and Health will support in advancing IHAT’s Gender Equality Strategy and the GenEqual Project, by supporting monitoring, evaluation and research systems that capture gender-transformative change in health programs.

This role will strengthen evidence generation, integrate gender and inclusion metrics into program frameworks and contribute to data driven decision making and learning.  The Associate will work closely with the Team Lead-GESI, the MEL/MER team and program units to ensure the effective design and implementation of evidence-based, inclusive health programming.

This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse stakeholders, contribute to meaningful change, and develop deep expertise in gender and health programming.

Job Responsibilities

Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER)

  • Support the development and implementation of the MER framework for GenEqual and IHAT’s Gender Equality strategy
  • Develop and refine gender sensitive indicators, data collection tools and reporting templates
  • Conduct data collection, validation, analysis and visualization to track progress and impact
  • Contribute to design, and execution of operational research, baseline and endline studies
  • Synthesize research findings and learning for adaptive programming and policy advocacy

Research and Knowledge generation

  • Coordinate qualitative and quantitative research activities on gender, equity and health outcomes
  • Assist in designing research protocols, instruments and ethical submissions
  • Support analysis, interpretation and dissemination of findings through reports, briefs and presentations
  • Maintain a repository of gender and health research, including global and national evidence relevant to IHAT’s work

Programmatic and technical support

  • Support integration of gender and inclusion perspectives in project design, monitoring frameworks and evaluations
  • Collaborate with the GenEqual and state teams to track progress against agreed indicators
  • Support the preparation of technical content for reporting, training sessions and stakeholder presentations

Capacity building and stakeholder engagement

  • Support capacity strengthening of field teams, fellows and CBO partners in MER processes
  • Facilitate workshops on gender sensitive data collection, analysis and learning
  • Collaborate with stakeholders for research and evidence sharing

Documentation, learning and reporting

  • Develop periodic MER reports, data summaries and dashboards
  • Document success stories, case studies and lessons learned to inform strategic decisions
  • Contribute to learning agendas and ensure knowledge translation from data to practice

Other Responsibilities

  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the reporting manager to support IHAT’s mission

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Biostatistics, Statistics, Development Studies, Gender Studies, or a related discipline, with demonstrated academic or professional focus on Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL).
  • A strong foundation in quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis, and program evaluation within public health or gender-responsive programs is preferred.

Work Experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in gender equality, public health, or development programming. Demonstrated proficiency in research design, indicator development, data collection, and analysis (qualitative and quantitative). Experience with data analysis software such as Excel, Power BI, STATA, or NVivo is desirable.
  • Candidates with experience in managing Fellows or interns will be preferred.
  • Experience working on gender equality initiatives and with youth and marginalised populations (e.g., transgender individuals, sex workers, LGBTIQ+ communities), particularly in urban health settings, will be an advantage.
