About the Organization

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956. Since its inception, the Vision of the TISS has been to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centred, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all.

About the Programme

TISS has launched its second Dual Masters Degree in Social Entrepreneurship and International Business with Queen Mary University of London, with whom it has developed a strong partnership through the joint work they have been doing on the Resilient Futures India Initiative (RFII).

This dual degree is a two year Masters degree taught on campus at TISS and Queen Mary University of London. On completion of the degree, students receive two degrees: an M.A (Social Entrepreneurship) from TISS and an M.Sc. in International Business from Queen Mary University of London.

This programme provides an overview of economics, polity and sociology, innovative problem solving, venture creation, business and organisational management, and leadership linking, with benefits to stakeholders in the first year. The focus on international business in the second year will enable students to develop an advanced-level understanding of the globalised environment in which modern businesses and economies operate by exploring the extent, limitations, benefits and risks of globalisation.

Eligibility

For students enrolled at TISS, eligibility criteria to be met for both TISS and Queen Mary University of London:

  • As per the entry requirement of the Queen Mary University of London, in the undergraduate level/Bachelor’s Degree in any subject, provided the degree contains satisfactory study of Mathematics and Statistics. Subjects likely to contain sufficient quantitative elements include Accounting, Mathematics, Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics and Finance
  • Students from less quantitatively oriented bachelors degrees, such as Management are welcome if they have focused on the more quantitative elements of those degrees.
  • The final transcript of Bachelors Degree should reflect subject/course names of Statistics, Mathematics and Economics/Econometrics
  • The students should have the equivalent of a UK 2.1 (60 per cent) in their Bachelor’s degree programme, and need a minimum GPA of 6.5 from the first and second semester of study in the M.A Social Entrepreneurship and International Business at TISS.
  • Along with above entry requirement of the Queen Mary University, student should meet the eligibility criteria are based on the Minimum Education Qualification and details as listed for eligibility of International Students of the M.A. in Social Entrepreneurship programme in the TISS.   • Students should also meet any other specific entry requirements of the programme they are applying for, as listed on the QMUL website:https://www.qmul.ac.uk/postgraduate/taught/coursefinder/courses/international-business-msc/
  • Students who fail to secure the minimum required GPA (6.5) in the first semester at TISS, will have the option to exit the programme on completion of the second semester at TISS with a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Entrepreneurship.
  • These students who fail to qualify for the UK component of the programme and exit after completing year one, will pay only the Indian part of the fees (TISS).
  • All Indian and foreign nationals who meet the entry requirements are eligible to apply.
  • Foreign nationals who have studied in India and Nepali nationals are also eligible for admission as International Students..
  • Only those students who have qualified from Foreign Universities or Boards of Higher Education recognised as equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), are eligible for admission as International Students.

Direct Entry (No Pre-Sessional)

  • IELTS 7.0 overall (inc. 6.0 in Writing and 5.5 in Reading, Listening and Speaking)

  • In 2021, an 80% overall in the English component of the CBSE or ISC Indian Standard XII examinations is equivalent to IELTS 7.0. (The qualification should have been achieved no more than 5 years from the start date of the Master's programme.)
  • Tests and qualifications must meet score requirements and have been taken within the validity period (which is within 2 years of the programme start date for most tests)
  • All applicants must meet the English language requirements for visa purposes of UKVI. The level may change from time to time.
  • You have the option to provide proof of your English language proficiency within two months of the start of the first semester at TISS.

5 week Pre-Sessional English required

  • IELTS 6.5 (inc. 6.0 in Writing and no less than 4.0 in Reading, Listening and Speaking)
