About the Organization

NCAER’s roots lie in Prime Minister Nehru’s early vision of a newly-independent India needing independent institutions as sounding boards for the government and the private sector. Remarkably for its time, NCAER was started in 1956 as a public-private partnership, both catering to and funded by the government and private industry. NCAER’s first Governing Body included the entire Cabinet of Economics Ministers and the leading lights of the private sector, including names like C.D. Deshmukh, J.R.D. Tata, John Mathai, and Asoka Mehta. The Ford Foundation provided strong financial support in the early years, combined with support from the Finance Ministry and Tata Sons.

About the Conference

The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) has been holding its annual marquee event, the India Policy Forum (IPF) Conference, every year since 2004. The IPF Conference, held in New Delhi, is attended by a galaxy of eminent policymakers, scholars, practitioners, academics, and members of the research fraternity, thus providing an unparalleled platform and convening power for policy outreach. Apart from facilitating a dynamic interface between global experts and Indian policymakers, this one-of-a-kind event also mainstreams the economic challenges and persistent questions of the day while offering viable solutions for them.

The commissioned papers are presented at the annual IPF Conference, discussed by leading researchers and top Indian policymakers, and then edited and published in the annual volume of the India Policy Forum.

Topics:

The IPF Editors invite prospective authors to submit their papers for IPF 2023 on the following topics related to the Indian economy: (i) financial sector and financial sector reforms; (ii) gender, education, recovery from COVID-19; (iii) growth; (iv) sub-national issues; (v) India’s manufacturing sector; (vi) exports and global value chains; and (vii) any other economic policy issue relevant for India’s future growth. The submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. The ideal empirical papers should feature topics of policy relevance to India under these themes for which either: (1) there is new empirical evidence that can be presented, or (2) there is useful Indian and global evidence that can be reviewed and synthesised for policymakers.

Original research papers from younger scholars are particularly welcome. Preference would be given to papers that are near completion.

How to Apply

Abstract submission deadline: December 15, 2022

The authors of the selected papers will be paid return air airfare from their current place of work to New Delhi to present at the IPF 2023 Conference to be held during July 6-7, 2023. Their stay in New Delhi during the Conference will also be covered.
