In summers, the groundwater in Nelamangala drops below 1,500 feet which causes several problems for the people residing in the area. Manasa, a native of the place says “My ambition is to become a teacher but if this water crisis continues, I may never get that chance. Manasa’s father Gangaraju points out the difficulty of living in such an area. He says that he has a family of five and if he has to organize water for all of them, he would need at least 15 pots of water.

At this time when the entire area was struggling to fulfil their daily needs of water supply, Pepsi Co along with Water Aid decided to intervene. Under their program sustainable access to safe water, the organization created storage tanks, mini piped water supply systems , household tap connections with platforms and Rooftop rainwater harvesting structures.

After the intervention the residents can feel a change in their lifestyle. Now the water is available right outside their homes and the kids can study well and go to the school. The importance of education to children is equal to the importance of water in the house," feels Manasa, a resident of Hucchecgowndapalya district, Nelamangala, Karnataka who earlier felt her dreams will never come true. The fate of the village changed with the clean water supply.
