About the Organization

We are the European University Institute (EUI), the leading institute in Europe dedicated to social sciences and humanities. Founded in 1972 by the six original members of the then European Communities, the EUI has earned a reputation as a transnational hub of research and higher learning.

The Robert Schuman Centre is an inter-disciplinary research centre at the heart of the European University Institute (EUI). It was established in 1993 with the goal of developing cutting-edge, academic research and using that research to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders in the public and private sector.

About the Fellowship

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies offers one-year Jean Monnet Fellowships to scholars who have obtained their doctorate more than five years prior to the start of the fellowship, i.e. 1 September 2025 for the academic year 2025-26. The Fellowship programme is open to post-docs, tenure-track academics and those wishing to spend their sabbatical at the Centre. The Centre offers up to 20 fellowships a year: We invite you to become part of a lively and creative academic community!

Jean Monnet Fellows are selected on the basis of a research proposal and of their CV. The research proposal should fit well with one of the Centre’s main research themes, programmes and projects.

Jean Monnet Fellows are based at the Robert Schuman Centre and associated with one of the Centre’s projects and programmes. They are expected to actively participate in the academic life of the Centre and contribute to the activities of the project or programme they are associated with. They can take part in the activities of the EUI postdoctoral programme and are encouraged to collaborate with researchers, other postdocs and EUI academic staff.

Those prospective applicants who would like to work with academics based in the Schuman Centre but who obtained their doctorate less than five years ago should consider applying to the Max Weber Programme.

Eligibility

• The fellowships are open to candidates who have obtained their doctorate more than 5 years prior to the start of the fellowship on 1 September (to apply for 2025-26, the Ph.D. should have been awarded before 1 September 2020).
• Candidates of all nationalities are eligible for the Jean Monnet Fellowships.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the Online Application Form.

There are two distinct phases in the application process:

• Register your application as early as possible.

You are encouraged to register your application, by inserting your personal details and referee details as soon as possible. This is important to allow sufficient time for your referees to submit the reference letters before the deadline. References will not be accepted after the deadline.

• Submit your application by the deadline 25 October 2024 (14:00 CEST).

Once you have registered your application you may continue to work on the application details and attachments until the deadline of 25 October 2024 (14:00 CEST). Submit the application only when you have filled in all the information correctly and have successfully uploaded the final version of the attachments.

• Applications Deadline: The deadline for applications is 25 October 2024 at 14:00 (CEST) - Online application form will be available as of mid-July 2024.
