About the Organization
Sensing Local Foundation is an ‘Urban Living Lab’ (ULL) based in Bengaluru, which is to be a site for city observation, learning and innovation with a specific focus on improving the state of environment and public health. As a model, it serves as an in-between-step that formalizes learning and experimentation in the urban context to achieve impact at a faster pace for the largest section of society. The prime thrust of the Living Lab is to behave as a catalyst for the ecosystem of city’s decision makers, and ‘break through’ the trap of repetitive, fragmented, myopic actions.
About the Fellowship
The Street Lab Fellowship Program is a 4-month hands-on program aimed at bringing practical knowledge and training to young practitioners and students passionate about walkability and climate action. This fellowship will be executed as part of the Walkable Kochi project, where fellows will be anchoring walkability audits in 74 wards of Kochi, working closely with local communities and student volunteers. Furthermore, the fellows will participate in the analysis of data and in arriving at design solutions to various street typologies in Kochi.
Fellows must be able to give 20 hours per week which will go towards documenting street profiles, volunteer management, community engagement and working on solutions. The program will be from the 20th of December 2024 to the 19th of April 2025. Fellows will receive a stipend of Rs 8,000/month and a certificate on completion of the program.
About Walkable Kochi:
An initiative of GIZ and Kochi Municipal Corporation, Walkable Kochi is an initiative that uses a data + community-led approach to support investment in 'Priority Walking Networks' that offer the highest impact on enhancing safety, comfort, and accessibility for everyone. This initiative will be carried out by conducting comprehensive walking audits, predominantly on weekends across 74 wards of Kochi between January to April 2025. These audits will capture inhibitors to walking across 36 different parameters.
Eligibility
Street lab fellows are 'doers' who are ready to get their hands dirty, wanting to engage with communities, coordinate field audits, and have an interest in climate action, walkability & participatory planning/ design. We are looking for young professionals and students:
- Between 21 - 35 years of age
- Currently reside in Kochi
- Can speak Malayalam & English fluently
- Can give a minimum of 20-hours per week (including weekends)
