Impact Academy by CSRBOX, a learner centered capacity building platform for the social impact space, in collaboration with TISS Mumbai and Monash University, Australia has come together to launch a first of its kind masterclass titled “An Introduction to Environmental Impact Assessments for Professionals” on the 30th of September, 2022 at 4 PM IST


This workshop/masterclass aims to provide an introductory overview on Environmental Impact Assessments, its history, and the popular tools and types of EIA using case studies. Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) are crucial transdisciplinary tools for professionals in both the public and private sector and are an important component of Corporate Social Responsibility projects. They can be used to understand the social and environmental impacts of plans, programs, projects or policies within your organisation. 


Through this masterclass, TISS Mumbai, Monash University, Australia and Impact Academy are joining hands for the first-time to provide you with an overview and know-how about how to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) as professionals working in the Corporate Social Responsbility and Social Impact space. The masterclass will be facilitated by esteemed panelists from both TISS, Mumbai and Monash University:


Dr. Abhinandan Saikia
Assistant Professor, Tata Institute of Social Sciences

Dr. Abhinandan is an Assistant Professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati off-campus. He is associated with the Centre for Ecology, Environment and Sustainable Development in the institute. Prior to this, he has worked in organizations like National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS - CSIR), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) - India, New Delhi and the United Nations Development Organizations (UNDP), New Delhi. 

Dr. Susie Ho
Lecturer, Monash University

Susie is passionate about designing and delivering innovative educational programs in science, relevant to our changing world. As the Course Coordinator for the Master of Environment and Sustainability, she works to foster cross-disciplinary teaching and learning. She went on to work at the Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre, where she conducted environmental monitoring and measured ecological responses to environmental flows. In her PhD studies, Susie looked at factors that enable native and invasive species to coexist. 

Dr Benjamin S. Thompson 

Lecturer in Geography, Monash University. 

Dr. Thompson’s  research investigates the governance and financing of biodiversity conservation and environmental management. His focus lies on approaches around ecotourism, payments for ecosystem services (PES), and impact investing. He evaluates the economic viability, social equity, and environmental effectiveness of these approaches, and highlights implementation challenges related to politics and institutions. He has taught Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) at Monash for three years.
