AM/NS India organises cleaning drive at Suvali beach to mark World Environment Day

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, two of the world’s largest steelmakers, undertook a cleaning drive at Suvali beach in Surat to mark the World Environment Day.

The initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and conservation efforts. Around 250 people, including AM/NS India employees, members of the local community, students from nearby villages and government officials, participated in the cleaning drive on Saturday, June 08, 2024.

Dr. Jignasa Oza, Regional Officer, GPCB, highlighted the significance of the initiative and spoke about the World Environment Day 2024’s theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Draught Resilience”. She underscored the urgent need for collective action in preserving and restoring natural resources.

Senior AM/NS India officials, including Hitesh Sheth, Head – OIG - Steel Complex – B (Expansion), AM/NS India, Hazira, Arbind Sharma, Head - Infrastructure, AM/NS India, Hazira, Sankara Subramanian, Head - Environment, AM/NS India, Hazira participated in the cleaning drive at Suvali beach.

The initiative exemplifies AM/NS India’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. Through such endeavours, the company continues to inspire positive change and advocate for a greener and more sustainable world.

Beyond the cleaning drive, the event included a Zumba session for the participants.

AM/NS India also conducted tree plantation drives on World Environment Day. More than 600 people participated in the drives. Led by Santosh Mundhada, Deputy Director - Technology, AM/NS India, and Dr. Arvind Bodhankar, Chief Sustainability Officer, AM/NS India, as many as 1,500 saplings were planted using the Miyawaki method at the plate mill of AM/NS India, Hazira. Another 100 saplings were planted at Junagam village, while 50 saplings were planted at Hazira Plant by various teams of AM/NS India.
