The Mosaic Company (“Mosaic”), The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems (“The Foundation”), and the S M Sehgal Foundation (“Sehgal Foundation”) held a Mahila Kisan Sammelan in Bahariya, Prayagraj on April 3, 2025. The Krishi Jyoti partnership began in 2008 from two villages in district Nuh, Haryana, and expanded to include water management and education, making it an integrated development project. To date, the project has reached 0.76 million people across 273 villages in seven states.
The event marked the inauguration of a school in Karnayeepur, Prayagraj, which was transformed in 2025, followed by a Mahila Kisan Sammelan that brought together women farmers who have adopted kitchen nutri gardens. The Krishi Jyoti Project promotes Kitchen Nutri Gardens to enhance the dietary diversity of rural households and enable families to include seasonal vegetables and fruits on their food plate. Families are provided with seeds for crops like Spinach, Carrot, Chili, Beetroot, Peas, Tomato, Fenugreek, Eggplant (Brinjal), Brocolli, Cauliflower, and others. A total of 3,900 kitchen nutri gardens have been set up.
Leaders from Mosaic graced the event, Mr. Benjamin Pratt, Vice President – Public Affairs and President of The Foundation; Mr. Robin Edwin, Managing Director and Dr. Shashikant Bhende, Country Agronomist, from Mosaic India Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Jay Sehgal, Executive Vice President and Trustee; Ms. Anjali Godyal, COO; Mr. Pawan Kumar, Principal Lead, Agriculture Development, and other team members represented S M Sehgal Foundation.
The school has become a stimulating learning environment that offers a safe, clean, and inspiring space for its 261 students and 10 teachers. The community’s active participation and support have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. A Village Development Committee (VDC) has been formed to maintain the infrastructure after the completion of the project, ensuring the long-term sustainability and community ownership of the initiatives, alongside the School Management Committee (SMC). School teachers and children, parents and members of the village council (panchayat), SMC, and VDC members participated and expressed their happiness for the school transformation.
Benjamin Pratt reinforced The Foundation’s investment in Krishi Jyoti as an important reflection of The Mosaic Company’s mission to help the world grow the food it needs. Robin Edwin expressed happiness, looking at the transformation benefiting the community and schoolchildren, and congratulated the woman for maintaining the nutri gardens for providing good nutrition for their household.
Jay Sehgal thanked Mosaic and The Foundation for the long-term partnership and the active participation of women farmers in the event. He shared, “Kitchen gardens empower women by enhancing their nutritional intake and providing opportunities for income generation through surplus produce. They also foster self-reliance and decision-making skills in managing resources.”
