Applications Invited for IKI Small Grants Programme 2025
Organization: International Climate Initiative (IKI)
Apply By: 15 Jan 2025
Grant Amount: 200000 Euro
About the Organization
The International Climate Initiative is one of the key instruments of the German Federal Government to support international climate action and biodiversity. The IKI supports solution strategies in developing and emerging countries that seek to achieve sustainable change.
About the Grant
To implement the Paris Agreement and Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), all of society needs to participate in climate and biodiversity action. Financing and financial resources are required. Through its IKI Small Grants Programme, the IKI specifically targets local actors, such as non-governmental organisations, and enables them to implement climate and biodiversity action. These actors are essential as agents of change. They are at the frontline where climate change and biodiversity loss show the greatest impact, and they are close to the people affected most. Since 2019, the programme has been supporting small projects by local organisations and funding institutions in ODA-eligible countries in achieving tangible results and making an impact.
IKI Small Grants is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and provides funding in two lines: International Calls and Funding Institutions. Both fund non-profit projects and initiatives that address the four IKI support areas: mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation to the impacts of climate change, conservation of natural carbon sinks/REDD+, and conservation of biodiversity.
The projects in the International Calls funding line are identified through an annual selection procedure. By the end of 2029, approximately 220 projects are planned to receive funding under the "International Calls".
- Funding amount: 60,000 to 200,000 euros
- Funding period: 1 to 3 years
Project proposals must focus on one or more of the following IKI funding areas:
- Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions
- Adaptation to the impacts of climate change
- Conserving natural carbon sinks with a focus on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation
- Conserving biological diversity
Eligibility
Funding is made available for sub-national, national and regional non-profit organisations in ODA-eligible countries. For-profit non-governmental organisations are also eligible as long as their proposal has not-for-profit objectives. Organisations who apply must have at least three years of relevant experience and an average annual revenue of between 60,000 and 500,000 euros.
How to Apply
The 6th call for proposals by IKI Small Grants is open from 18th November 2024 to 15th January 2025.
