About the Organization

The UEFA Foundation for Children was established on the initiative of the former UEFA president, Michel Platini, reflecting UEFA’s desire to play a more active role in society and communities.

For many years, UEFA had been working with numerous partners to develop projects and programmes designed to help children living in difficult circumstances in Europe and beyond.

Keen to step up its activities and target them appropriately, UEFA decided to create an independent foundation that uses sport to support humanitarian projects promoting children’s rights in the following areas: Access to sport; Personal development; Healthy lifestyle; Disabled children; Conflict victims; Gender equality; Environmental protection; Employability; Infrastructure and equipment; Strengthening partnerships.

About the Grant

Every year, the UEFA Foundation for Children issues a call for projects.

Those projects seek to achieve the foundation’s objectives – i.e. to help children by providing support in the following areas:

• health;
• education;
• access to sport;
• personal development;
• integration of minorities;
• protection of children’s rights.

In order to achieve those objectives, the foundation establishes programmes involving football or sport in general, either running its own projects or working in partnership with other entities.

The foundation may advise, work with or support any organisation or project that has similar goals or seeks to provide development aid.

It may also provide humanitarian or emergency assistance, acting alone or in partnership with other organisations.

The Board of Trustees will assess all projects, consulting with external parties where necessary, before deciding on its allocation of funding.

Decisions will be taken at the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees. Outside of that framework, the foundation’s statutes provide for the use of exceptional decision-making mechanisms in emergency situations.

The foundation’s support is not limited to projects in Europe.

Our core aims are solidarity and development aid, rooted in respect for the ethical values that we share with our partners.
