About the Organization:

Beginning in 1992, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has made concerted efforts towards inclusive education, women empowerment, tribal uplift and sustainable development. They have grown to become the world’s largest residential education institution for tribal children. Their aim is to break the vicious cycle of poverty and social isolation and to restore hope for a better future. They believe that every person has the right to access resources and opportunities in order to live and develop with dignity and to become an active and contributing member of our society.

Background

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) with support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is going to introduce Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education for adolescents with disabilities through Life Skills approach in special schools of Odisha. The objective is to address the vulnerabilities of adolescents with disabilities towards issues related to sexual reproductive health and violence by enhancing their knowledge and skills. The disabilities include visual impairment, speech impairment, hearing impairment, mobility impairment and children in special needs (intellectual disability, autism and cerebral palsy).

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to call for proposal and lay down the terms of reference for the agency to be engaged for developing following resource materials:

  • Facilitator’s module for special educators / teachers on sexual and reproductive health, violence and rights entitlements through life skills approach for adolescents with disabilities - visual impairment, speech impairment, hearing impairment, mobility impairment
  • Booklet for parents, family members and caregivers for addressing issues related to sexual and reproductive health and violence for adolescents with intellectual disability

Scope of work:

 The selected agency will undertake the assignment to develop the modules indicated in section in 3.1 and 3.2 and the scope of work includes following:

  • Facilitator’s Module for special educators / teachers on sexual and reproductive health, violence, rights, and their entitlements for adolescents with disabilities - visual impairment, hearing impairment and mobility impairment
  • Booklet for parents, family members and caregivers for addressing issues related to sexual and reproductive health and violence for adolescents with intellectual disability
  • The selected agency should share the chapters as and when completed for feedback and incorporate the suggested changes.
  • The module should be field tested with the special educators dealing with different kinds of adolescents with disabilities and their caregivers. Further, the handouts should be field tested with adolescents with disabilities.
  • Agency should make a presentation on the modules to KISS and UNFPA.
  • The module should be finalised after incorporating the inputs from field testing, Technical Advisory Group, KISS and UNFPA.

Deliverables:

The agency should submit print ready version (soft copy in two pen drives) and five hard copies of each module indicated below:

  • Facilitator’s module for special educators / teachers on sexual and reproductive health, violence and rights entitlements through life skills approach for adolescents with disabilities (visual impairment, speech impairment, hearing impairment, mobility impairment)
  • Booklet for parents, family members and caregivers for addressing issues related to sexual and reproductive health and violence for adolescents with intellectual disability

Qualification, skills and experience required

  • Previous experience of developing module and tools
  • Good understanding of issues of adolescents with disability.
  • A demonstrated ability (through previous similar assignments) to develop content, methodology for the training modules especially on adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
