REQUEST FOR QUOTE (RfQ)

Room to Read India Trust (RtR) invites quotations for printing of Student Workbook for Grade 1 & 2, respectively for partnered schools in Jharkhand state

About Room to Read

Room to Read is a global organization transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income communities by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, our innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools during two time periods that are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. We work in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations, and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and ensure girls can complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions.

By focusing on the quality of education provided within the communities and ensuring these outcomes are measured, we have created a model that can be replicated, localized, and sustained by governments. With its global headquarters in San Francisco, Room to Read till date has benefited 32 million children across 21 low-income countries. Room to Read India was established in 2003 and presently has programs in twelve states – Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi NCR, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. By working closely with the government and other partner organizations to create equal and robust education systems that reach the most vulnerable children and improve teaching and learning environments and materials, as of 31st December 2021, Room to Read India’s interventions resulted in:

  • Establishment of 15,553 libraries
  • 367,844 girls benefitting
  • Training of 31, 395 teachers in various programs
  • Tertiary education/job opportunities for 63.8% of scholars within a year after graduation
  • Publishing of 220 Room to Read India story titles, and distribution over 9.35 million books

Project Background

Room to Read India is currently working in collaboration with the state government to bring about broader systemic reform in foundational literacy. Room to Read is proposing to continue scaling of our work in Jharkhand, through the ‘We Do’ approach as:

  1. there have been recent, state-wide foundational literacy reforms with which we are already collaborating,
  2. our work in the state is supported by current Memoranda of Understanding, and
  3. monitoring has shown that working at the ‘We Do’ phase is the most appropriate to cost-effectively support scale-up of our Literacy Program model.

Objective

Learning materials and training programs for foundational grades are being revised in relation to policy reforms to promote a structured pedagogical approach to foundational learning. Room to Read will provide supplementary instruction materials for children and teachers in all the primary schools to facilitate instruction classes. These resources play a crucial role in facilitating on-site learning and reinforcing various capacity-building programs designed for the benefit of children. Through these provisions, RtR aims to enrich the overall educational environment, ensuring that students have access to valuable resources that significantly contribute to their academic growth and development.

Student Workbook is a compilation of worksheets with activities for the children to work on daily basis, aligning with the learning objectives to be achieved as per lesson plans. Student Workbooks will be distributed across 4500 schools in Hazaribagh and Giridih, Jharkhand. The initiative is expected to benefit an estimated 125,000 primary-grade students enrolled in government schools, specifically in grade 1 and grade 2 during the current academic year.
