ABOUT Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation
Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF) was set up by the Government of India as an independent society under the Ministry of Rural Development, to scale up civil society action in partnership with the central and state governments. The Union Cabinet decided to form Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF) through a cabinet decision on 3rd September 2013 to ensure better implementation and outreach of the government schemes and programmes in partnership with civil society organizations. It came into existence as an independent society on 10th December 2013 with an initial sanctioned amount of INR 500 crore to be allocated in two installments to create the corpus of this new society.
POSITION SUMMARY
Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF) invites applications from motivated and detail-oriented candidates for the position of Research Intern. The intern will support research, knowledge management, and data analytics activities of BRLF under the Research and MEL Vertical. The role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to initiatives in rural development, sustainable livelihoods, natural resource management, tribal development, and evidence-based planning. A key responsibility of the position will be supporting the preparation of District Atlas Reports for 234 districts across BRLF geographies by compiling, analyzing, and visualizing secondary data and spatial information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and Data Analysis
- Collect, compile, clean, and analyze secondary data from national and state-level sources.
- Work with datasets such as the Census of India, NFHS, NSS, SECC, NITI Aayog, Ministry databases, and other government publications.
- Conduct literature reviews, policy reviews, and thematic research related to rural livelihoods, natural resource management, tribal development, and governance.
- Support data validation, quality checks, and preparation of analytical summaries and reports.
District Atlas Development
- Support the preparation of District Atlas Reports for 234 districts in BRLF geographies.
- Compile district-level indicators relating to demographics, livelihoods, agriculture, forests, water resources, infrastructure, health, education, and socio-economic development.
- Prepare district profiles, thematic analyses, maps, charts, and tables for atlas reports.
Programme Support
- Support workshops, consultations, meetings, and dissemination activities as required.
- Supports the day-to-day activities of the Research and MEL Vertical as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- M Phil/ PhD (pursuing) in Economics, Development Studies, Statistics, or related disciplines.
- Knowledge and experience in working with secondary data sources and large datasets.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and research skills.
- Proficiency in SPSS/ R, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Familiarity with rural development, livelihoods, natural resource management, and tribal development issues.
- Basic knowledge of Hindi (written and spoken) is essential Physical presence at BRLF Delhi office is mandatory during working hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on all weekdays during the internship assignment.
Desirable
- Knowledge of GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS can be an advantage.
- Knowledge of regional languages of Central Indian Tribal Belt/ North-East
