Position Title: Agronomist – Nature-Based Carbon Projects (AWD)
1. Background
The role supports implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in agriculture, particularly AWD-based rice systems, contributing to carbon credit generation under standards such as Verra and Gold Standard.
2. Objective of the Role
To ensure effective field implementation of sustainable agriculture practices while leading data management, validation, and reporting systems required for carbon project monitoring and verification.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Field Implementation & Agronomy Support
- Support implementation of nature Based Solutions (NBS) carbon projects focused on Sustainable agriculture or other nature-based solutions.
- Provide technical guidance to farmers on:
- Crop management
- Soil health and nutrient practices
- Efficient water use (AWD)
- Ensure proper adoption through regular field engagement.
- Support and facilitate:
- Farmer trainings and field demonstrations
- Awareness sessions on climate-smart and sustainable agriculture practices
- Coordinate with farmer groups, FPOs, NGOs, and other grassroots institutions for effective project implementation.
- Build and maintain relationships with local communities, government bodies, and key stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of project activities.
- Oversee monitoring of crop yields, water usage (including AWD practices), and other relevant parameters required for carbon project verification.
- Collaborate with universities, research institutions, and technical partners to strengthen the scientific rigor and credibility of the project.
B. Training, Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Coordination
C. Data Management & MRV Systems (CORE RESPONSIBILITY)
- Manage and maintain structured project databases related to:
- Crop performance
- Water usage cycles (AWD compliance)
- Farmer participation and land records
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity across all project sites.
- Validate and clean datasets received from field teams.
- Develop and maintain:
- MIS dashboards
- Data tracking formats
- Reporting templates
- Ensure alignment of all datasets with MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) requirements.
- Support digital tools and platforms for efficient data flow and storage.
- Support monitoring of parameters required for carbon credit certification.
- Maintain documentation required under Verra / Gold Standard methodologies.
- Assist in third-party audits, validation, and verification processes.
- Ensure traceability and audit-readiness of all project data.
- Work with:
- Field teams and coordinators
- Local institutions and farmer groups
- Ensure smooth flow of information between field implementation and data systems.
- Prepare:
- Data-driven progress reports (Monthly & Quarterly)
- Dashboards and summaries for project performance
- Field reports
- Training reports
- Maintain updated records of:
- Farmer Enrollment
- Land coverage
- Activity tracking
- Identify risks related to:
- Data gaps or inconsistencies
- Field reporting errors
- Propose corrective mechanisms and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Clean, validated, and audit-ready project datasets
- Functional MIS and reporting systems
- Accurate documentation aligned with carbon certification requirements
- Strong integration between field activities and data systems
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Agriculture / Agronomy
- 2–5 years of experience in:
- Agriculture projects with data handling
- MIS or project data management
- Strong understanding of:
- Paddy cultivation and AWD practices
- Proficiency in:
- Excel / Google Sheets
- Data validation and reporting systems
- Ability to work with both field teams and data systems
- Experience in carbon projects / MRV systems
- Exposure to digital data tools (ODK, Kobo, etc.)
- Experience with NGOs, FPOs, or rural programs
Job Type: Full Time
Offered Package: 45,000/- Per month (including travel). Need to bring your own Laptop and two-wheeler.
