Job Description
The Gender and Inclusion Expert is expected to work with other members of CABI’s gender and youth teams, to embed gender firmly across CABI’s projects and programmes. They will engage in and support gender and inclusion and mainstreaming by working with biological and social science staff to embed gender responsive and transformative approaches in research, proposals, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
S/he will, in collaboration with the Gender Manager and Gender Coordinators, will lead the development of work where gender related objectives and gender transformation are the primary purpose. The Gender and Inclusion Expert will lead on the gender component the CABI Global Burden of Crop Loss (GBCL) programme.
The Gender and Inclusion Expert will be expected to stay abreast of current developments in the gender, youth and inclusion fields, develop linkages and partnerships with external expertise and provide training and seminars to support staff in gender and inclusion skills. S/he will be required to report on progress on gender mainstreaming efforts.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to projects through implementation of gender and inclusion approaches and gender analysis.
- Lead and implement gender work for GBCL.
- Carry out and provide tools and guiding questions for other staff to carry out gender and youth context analysis and mapping at project inception phase or before
- Review and provide gender and inclusion advice on project development, implementation and reporting, with a particular focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- Refine and develop gender analysis and support tools to use during project implementation
- Develop and maintain a gender knowledge base for mainstreaming good practice in relevant technical areas for dissemination to staff for professional development
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of latest developments in fields of gender and women’s empowerment in agriculture and the environment
- Represent CABI and promote our experience in gender work through publications and conference attendance
- Carry out staff training, as required, in gender and inclusion
- Collaborate in the development of a gender and inclusion action plan to outline actions to mainstream gender across CABI; review and update the action plan annually
- Any other duties as required and in relation to gender, youth and inclusion.
- Ensure adherence to CABI policies and procedures, including HR and health and safety requirements, financial and project management procedures, and IPR procedures.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree or higher in social sciences, gender, rural sociology, anthropology from reputable or internationally recognised university.
- Minimum 7 years work experience in related fields (gender, youth, social inclusion) including and not limited to international development, programme and business development.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Excellent understanding of gender and inclusion issues across a variety of cultures and contexts
- Experience in women’s economic empowerment approaches in agriculture
- Experience in design and use of gender and inclusion tool kits
- Knowledge and experience of implementation of gender analysis and assessments
- Experience in integrating gender and inclusion into project and programme design, implementation, monitoring and reporting
- Experience in business development targeting women and youth
- Ability to identify, obtain and analyse information from a variety of sources
- Ability to facilitate learning and professional development in others
- Excellent organisation and research skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and flexibly to manage workload and meet deadlines
- Ability to work well in a multicultural environment and work collaboratively with varied teams
