Purpose of Job

About the Project

The initiative for Evidence-based Primordial Prevention Model for reduction of modifiable risk factors for Diabetes is being implemented in select districts with pre-dominantly tribal population across 5 states in India, namely Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. This is a collaborative project between Piramal Swasthya Management & Research Institute, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation and Public Health Foundation of India. The project aims to achieve the following:

1. Evidence-based models for primordial and primary prevention developed based on formative research and pilot interventions in place and ready for scale up.
2. It will be interventions to improve knowledge and practices towards risk factors of DM through school based primordial and primary prevention approaches.
3. Increased health literacy and knowledge about diabetes prevention among tribal women of reproductive age through community influencers leveraging committees and institutions.

About the Role

The Block Program Manager will support implementation and coordination of the project at the block level, ensuring effective execution of program activities and strengthening last-mile delivery of services, particularly in tribal, remote, and hard-to-reach communities.

The role will focus on facilitating convergence with EMRS schools, sensitizing community influencers, monitoring field-level progress, and ensuring timely implementation of interventions related to prevention, early identification, referral, and community-based management of diabetes and other NCD risk factors.

The role is expected to work towards,

1. Support rollout of school-level primordial prevention activities in assigned schools and blocks.
2. Conduct regular sessions with students, teachers, and school leadership on healthy behaviours and diabetes/NCD risk reduction.
3. Mobilize adolescents, children, and community members for project activities and events.
4. Facilitate community-level sessions for women of reproductive age, pregnant women, and family members on nutrition, healthy lifestyle, and prevention of NCD risk factors.
5. Engage with gram sabhas, village committees, youth groups, PRI members, tribal healers, and other local influencers to strengthen community participation.
6. Support delivery of culturally sensitive SBCC activities and field communication interventions developed under the project.
7. Identify local beliefs, practices, myths, and behaviour patterns that influence health behaviours and report field insights to project teams.
8. Assist in organizing pilot activities, demonstrations, campaigns, school events, and village-level meetings.
9. Promote healthy lifestyle practices including improved food habits, physical activity, and other preventive behaviours relevant to diabetes risk reduction.
10. Support household-level and community-level initiatives such as nutri-gardens and related prevention efforts as guided under the project.
11. Coordinate with teachers, frontline workers, local health staff, and community representatives for smooth implementation.
12. Maintain records of sessions, participants, field visits, feedback, and activity progress in required formats.
13. Support baseline, pilot, monitoring, and learning activities by collecting field information and ensuring timely reporting.
14. Track challenges, escalations, and success stories from the field and share them with supervisors regularly.
15. Ensure all activities are respectful of tribal culture, local context, and community norms.
16. Travel regularly within the assigned geography for implementation, follow-up, and coordination.
17. Any other specific task assigned by the organisation, as required.

Essential Qualifications

• Graduate in social work, public health, nutrition, education, sociology, rural development, or any related discipline from a recognized institution.
• Candidates with relevant field experience and strong community engagement skills may be considered.

Essential Experience and Skills

• 1–3 years of experience in community mobilization, school-based programs, public health, nutrition, maternal health, or development projects.
• Experience of working with tribal communities, rural populations, or underserved geographies is preferred.
• Ability to conduct group sessions, community meetings, and interpersonal communication activities.
• Working knowledge of behaviour change communication, health promotion, or community-based program implementation is desirable.
• Ability to coordinate with schools, frontline workers, community leaders, and local institutions.
• Good documentation and reporting skills in prescribed formats.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office, smartphones, and digital reporting tools.
• Fluency in local language/dialect of the intervention area is preferred; working knowledge of Hindi is essential; basic English is desirable.
• Willingness to travel extensively within assigned locations.

Additional preference (Desirable)

• Experience in school health, adolescent health, maternal health, nutrition, or NCD prevention projects.
• Experience in facilitating gram sabha or village-level platforms.
• Familiarity with local socio-cultural practices and tribal contexts.
• Ability to build trust with community influencers and local institutions.
