Purpose of Job
About the Project
The initiative for Evidence-based Primordial Prevention Model for reduction of modifiable risk factors for Diabetes is being implemented select districts with pre-dominantly tribal population across 5 states in India – Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand. This is a collaborative project between Piramal Swasthya Management & Research Institute, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation and Public Health Foundation of India. The project aims to achieve the following:
- Evidence-based models for primordial and primary prevention developed based on formative research and pilot interventions in place and ready for scale up.
- It will be interventions to improve knowledge and practices towards risk factors of DM through school based primordial and primary prevention approaches.
- Increased health literacy and knowledge about diabetes prevention among tribal women of reproductive age through community influencers leveraging committees and institutions.
About the Role
To lead, coordinate and supervise the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Diabetes Primordial Prevention program at the state-level ensuring multi-stakeholder collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
The role is expected to work towards,
Program planning and implementation
- Develop and roll-out state level implementation plans aligning with program objective and timelines.
- Coordinate with district teams for effective and timely implementation of interventions.
- Regular supervision and review meetings of the program activities.
- Facilitate capacity-building of district teams and conduct performance assessments.
- Identify implementation challenges and propose corrective actions.
- Ensure timely-resolution of field issues in consultation with central program team.
Stakeholder engagement and partnerships
- Liaise with State health departments, National Health Mission and other government bodies as per program need.
- Support partner organisations as per program need.
- Represent the program in state-level meetings, forums.
Program monitoring and reporting
- Track program indicators, quality data collection, validation and reporting.
- Prepare and review periodic reports/presentation for leadership.
- Document case stories, best practices and success stories.
- Support program evaluation and dissemination of findings as per program need.
Any other specific task assigned by the organisation, as required.

Essential Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health / community medicine / health administration / development science or related field.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience in public health programs with significant focus on NCDs.
- Experience of working with tribal communities, rural populations, or underserved geographies is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with or supporting the NP-NCD or other National Health Programs.
- Experience in working with government stakeholders, particularly at state level (e.g., State NCD Cell, National Health Mission).
- Proven experience at state level program management, including design and scale-up of public health interventions.
- Strong experience in program strategy, planning, and performance management.
- Experience in donor-funded programs and working with development partners.
- Experience in leading teams and multi stakeholder programs.
- Good documentation and reporting skills in prescribed formats.
- Basic proficiency in MS Office, smartphones, and digital reporting tools.
- Fluency in local language/dialect of the intervention area is preferred; working knowledge of Hindi is essential; basic English is desirable.
- Willingness to travel extensively within assigned locations.
- Ability to effectively communicate, network and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders (internal and external), to achieve program objectives.
- Ability to work independently and good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to seamlessly multitask in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Should be a team player with strong training & mentoring skills.
Additional preference (Desirable)
- Experience in school health, adolescent health, maternal health, nutrition, or NCD prevention projects.
- Familiarity with local socio-cultural practices and tribal contexts.
- Ability to build trust with community influencers and local institutions.
- Experience of working on tribal nutrition or tribal food practices.
- Proven experience in working with tribal communities or in rural/underserved areas, with a particular focus on youth or students.
- Experience working with multi-stakeholder groups, including government agencies, NGOs, and local community leaders.
