Job Description

WWF-India is looking for a young and dynamic researcher for recruiting as a Project Officer in Asia’s Linear Infrastructure safeGuarding Nature (ALIGN) project. ALIGN is a USAID funded project currently being implemented in three countries in South Asia namely India, Nepal and Mongolia.

ALIGN project in India is the flagship Infrastructure project of WWF aimed at strengthening the ties between the Conservation and Development authorities, implementers, practitioners, influencers and enthusiasts working in the interface of developmental and conservation priorities. India stands amongst one of the swiftest growing economies whilst having humongous achievements and challenges when it comes to biodiversity conservation. India’s major wildlife corridors are under the immense pressure of infrastructure development which needs to be checked on time to ensure their functionality. WWF-India has prioritised the engagements in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Assam under ALIGN project. However, opportunistic engagements with stakeholders can go beyond the plan as required.

The PO will need to work with the ALIGN team and landscape teams of the organization in bringing knowledge and information of Linear Infrastructure (LI) impacts and mitigation measures. WWF-India has been working on LI safeguards with government and non-government stakeholders for more than a decade which will be strengthened by the PO position.

The position will work in close coordination with the Lead - ALIGN project and support to achieve deliverables of the project on time. One of the major tasks of this role will be to conduct research on linear infrastructure and safeguards therein, as well as policy and guidelines related to the subject.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review the existing policies and guidelines of government and Linear Infrastructure (LI) development agencies that support the implementation of Natural Resource Safeguards in Linear Infrastructure plans and projects as required; conduct desk research, analyse information and prepare reports thereof.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and WWF-India teams for collating updated information on LI development and safeguards therein.
  • Prepare documentation on tasks and activities completed, as per ALIGN project commitment.
  • Assist the Lead - ALIGN project and others in preparing documents, case studies, learning modules and reports.
  • Coordinate organizing workshops, meetings, prepare presentation modules and assist in preparing proceedings of the meetings and workshops.
  • Facilitate the development and delivery of informational materials, web-based modules, and related workforce training programs that further the professional development of LI practitioners.
  • Represent WWF-India for meetings with key stakeholders in Central and State levels.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Master's degree in Ecology, Engineering, Architecture, Environment Science, Biology, Conservation, Wildlife Science, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Background in scientific writing and preparation of technical reports.
  • Basic Spatial knowledge including the use of any GIS software, Visual illustrative softwares would be a desirable qualification.
  • Previous experience in impact assessment or road ecology would be an added advantage for the position.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently upon guidance and as well as a part of a cross-cutting team.
