ABOUT Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations
Established in August 1981, ICRIER is an autonomous, policy-oriented, not-for-profit, economic policy think tank. The team consists of seasoned professionals belonging to a variety of disciplines, covering multiple facets of this broad theme. The team is engaged in cutting-edge research employing a variety of models to tackle core energy and environmental issues. It offers its research services to different government ministries for shaping their negotiation stances at multiple forums such as the G20, UNFCCC, etc., and provides timely insights into some of the key questions that the country is grappling with.
Job Requirements:
Typical requirements include the following:
- /MA (Statistics/Quantitative Economics/ related fields) degree from a reputed Indian or foreign University with excellent grades/marks.
- Prior work experience of 0-2 years.
- Training in advanced quantitative courses are sought. Prior training received and experience of working on econometric or statistical models (specifically optimization models) is required.
- While training in energy, employment and climate change-related issues is not compulsory, the candidate must be willing to learn, adapt, and work on emerging policy issues in this space.
- The candidate should have prior programming capabilities. S/he should be comfortable working on Stata, R or Python.
- Prior experience in handling unit-level government data (ASI, NSSO, Census, CEA, etc.) would be preferred.
- Good research and writing skills.
- Willingness to travel.
Work Responsibilities:
- This is an entry-level position wherein the Research Assistant will support the team with various environmental, energy, and climate change projects.
- S/he will also support the thematic lead in client management and other similar managerial activities as a part of this role.
The work compromises the following activities:
Research and Knowledge generation:
- The candidate will work in a fast-paced environment and assist the team with various research projects.
- S/he will be responsible for data collection, cleaning, and analysis. Research work may involve primary or secondary research, and the candidate must be comfortable with both. The collected knowledge will need to be documented in the form of reports/working papers/policy briefs/strategy papers/op-eds/journal articles depending on the need of the project.
- Stakeholder Management: The candidate must be comfortable with networking and interacting with stakeholders and peers regularly.
- Project Management: The candidate is expected to help the team with managing and organizing events, stakeholders’ meetings, roundtables, etc.
- The project management activities also include dissemination activity underlined in the project.
