Job Description/Responsibilities

  • Assist VKPL team in liaising with client and government agencies
  • Work on obtaining, cleaning, and coding GIS data
  • Collaborate on research ideas with the professors and professionals associated with the VKPL and other research staff
  • Majority of work will be on spatial analysis, cartography, field staff support, and research and development
  • Provide independent data interpretation while effectively maintaining data documentation
  • Create and modify GIS datasets, manage and maintain legacy GIS datasets develop and implement GISbased analysis
  • Develop and maintain geospatial data on desktop and mobile applications. Ensure data meets appropriate data accuracy and content standards for quality assurance and quality control
  • Ability to independently manage multiple assignments, determine and set job task priorities, and work with limited direct supervision

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Must have a degree in GIS/ Geography/ Agriculture/Environmental studies, or related field with demonstrated capabilities in GIS, spatial data, and machine learning
  • Hands-on knowledge of QGIS/ArcGIS software and other tools
  • Strong understanding of geodatabases and geodatabase applications
  • Ability to work with vector and raster datasets
  • Familiar with GPS data collection and data management
  • Ability to use and edit shapefiles and geodatabases (personal, file, and enterprise)
  • Experience working with different coordinate systems, map projections, and datums
  • Familiarity with standard cartographic methods, theories, and principles
  • Exposure to designing, building, and testing geospatial datasets as a GIS Developer/Data Engineer or in a related technical role
  • Experience with Hydrological modeling, Land and soil change modeling, urban dynamics
  • Knowledge of queries and reasoning, measurements, transformations, descriptive summaries, optimization, and hypothesis testing for special analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience with data processing using PostGIS, Shape Files, Geodatabases, GDAL
