What We Can Achieve Together:
The Senior Manager, Natural Climate Solutions and Carbon Markets will be responsible for managing and leading small to large-scale complex NCS projects and taking a role in developing comprehensive scientific leadership across Nature Conservancy India Solutions climate portfolio. The Manager provides technical and program support to Conservancy’s field operations. S/he will help to establish the Conservancy as a major conservation partner within area of responsibility, define conservation priorities in NCS and deliver high quality technical work products including feasibility studies and Project Design Documents (PDD).
The Senior Manager, Natural Climate Solutions and Carbon Markets develops key partnerships with private and public organizations to develop, test and expand innovative nature climate solutions and carbon market models related to existing and new carbon methodologies in terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems. Working across different Conservation teams, the Senior Manager leads NCIS carbon strategy with a particular focus on decarbonization drivers through NCS and carbon markets aspects and integrating most effective NCS pathways within arid ecosystems, existing and restored vegetation in agricultural landscapes and blue carbon. The Senior Manager will build and manage an internal resource of carbon market intelligence of both a quantitative and qualitative nature within NCIS and in relation to market developments, corporate action, country-level climate policy and multilateral initiatives.
They negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and communities to conserve and protect natural communities and develop and implement conservation strategies. Frequent travel domestically and/or internationally, evening and weekend hours.

Roles and responsibilities:
- Generates conservation outcomes through the conceptualization, development, and execution of NCS projects with cross- functional and cross divisional teams towards desired outcomes.
- In collaboration with TNC’s Asia-Pacific and Global Carbon Markets teams, support local teams in India to (a) explore feasibility of carbon markets in support a project / strategy, and if feasible in (b) identification of appropriate carbon methodology and standard selection for application; (c) assessment of carbon stock/sequestration potential and project feasibility; (d) assessment of potential carbon credit buyers/partners; and (e) preparing application for selling of carbon credits.
- An initial focus on coordinating development of a Natural Climate Solutions / Climate Strategy for India and defining contributions to TNCs 2030 Goals in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Generate evidence reflecting the relevance and applicability of natural climate solutions in India more broadly.
- Initiate policy dialogues with governments and other stakeholders to understand and create the enabling conditions for carbon markets, improve investment opportunities, address barriers and improve capacity.
- Develops and manages internal and external relationships with key partners and subject matter experts – including facilitating signing MOUs and partnership agreements.
- Coordinate with various carbon market players and hold concurrent discussions with potential market participants.
- Join national, regional and international workshops and meetings that discuss climate, carbon markets and conservation goals.
- Assist the relevant teams with planning, organization, work planning and implementation of NCS projects as required.
This position will be based out of New Delhi, and for an initial period of two years.
What You’ll Bring
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in environmental sciences, climate science, sustainable development or other relevant degree plus at least
10 years’ experience in NCS/Carbon Project Development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In-depth knowledge of applying carbon science and voluntary carbon standards and methodologies including carbon accounting. Experience in working on forest carbon/ REDD+ will be an advantage
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in carbon markets/ project development, climate and conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Experience working in a development context, with similar roles in previous organizations.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in carbon markets, and related discipline(s), and in-depth knowledge of these in the Indian context.
- Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
- Demonstrated experience in influencing, developing and implementing conservation and climate policy and plans
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and at least one Indian language.
