Job Description

AshokaX is partnering with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to identify and foster the next generation of sustainability talent in India. EDF is a 60+ year-old global non-profit with a strong foundation in science, economics and partnerships. In India, their mission is to support an Indian pathway to shared sustainable prosperity. Through the Ashoka Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate Corps Fellowship, passionate, talented and experienced postgraduate students will be carefully selected, trained and then custom matched with host companies and organisations. Climate Corps (www.edfclimatecorps.org) is a network of over 3,000 professionals united to advance climate solutions. This network is grounded in an innovative summer fellowship program which embeds trained master’s, post graduate and recent graduates in companies and public sector organizations to accelerate and advance climate goals. Since the program’s launch in 2008, 1,100+ Climate Corps fellows in the United States, China and India have uncovered over $1.6 billion dollars in energy savings for participating organizations.

A key contributor to the Climate Corps team, the Senior Manager – Ashoka X will report to the Deputy Director of the program and will be responsible for several operations workstreams of the India Climate Corps fellowship program. They will coordinate daily with regional and global Climate Corps staff members, Ashoka University staff members, manage contractors, and ensure coordination and effective execution of projects in alignment with the program’s overall goals and strategy. The Senior Manager will also provide support to the program strategy, fundraising reporting, budget, and personnel decisions.

Fellow Training

  • Lead development and execution of annual fellow training and summer support including, but not limited to the following activities:
  • Develop learning & training strategy for the India program and preparing an execution plan with input from program leadership, faculty from 3CS and other key stakeholders.
  • Identify and engage with Ashoka faculty and external partners to develop learning content, including development and execution of a summer support strategy.
  • Identify and establish relationships with sectoral experts in focused areas like Freight & Logistics, Food & Agriculture and Manufacturing, leading up to building a cohort of advisors for supporting the fellowships.
  • Collaborate with Network workstream to conduct workshops, learning and networking events around training sessions.

Other program duties:

  • Serve as a relationship manager for 5 - 10 Climate Corps host companies and support Climate Corps fellows throughout their fellowships, including:
  • In collaboration with fellows and hosts, ensure the development of high-impact project workplans.
  • Provide ongoing project support to all fellows and hosts, including via planned check-in calls, ad-hoc fellow support, and site visits as appropriate (if safe to do so);
  • Secure final project deliverables from all fellows including final reports, supporting analyses, and project summaries.
  • Manage and coordinate projects with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • We are seeking an experienced person and program contributor with a professional background in the business and/or environmental sectors. Qualifications for this position include:
  • 5-7 years of experience in the corporate, Government or non-profit sectors, including demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and partnerships to achieve program goals.
  • Experience with program management, learning & development or similar stakeholder management.
  • Experience managing projects and consultants.
  • Working knowledge of corporate sustainability and related topics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, comfort with public speaking, and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.
  • Attention to detail and personal organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a highly collaborative and geographically dispersed team in a fastpaced, dynamic, and professional environment.
  • Willingness to travel (10-15% of the time)
  • Proficiency in the use of PCs, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint), and familiarity with program management tools such as Asana, Salesforce.com (or equivalent CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software)
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
