About the Initiative

CSRBOX Group works in partnership with multiple Stakeholders including corporates, philanthropic organisations, government departments, and grassroots non-profit organisations to design and implement social and environmental programmes across India. Through these partnerships, CSRBOX supports projects that address local environmental challenges while creating long-term benefits for communities.

As part of its environmental initiatives, the CSRBOX Group invites credible NGOs and grassroots organisations to collaborate in implementing high-impact initiatives, in partnership with reputed corporate allies, and philanthropic organisations to restore and rejuvenate mangrove ecosystems along India’s coastline.

The programme focuses on:

  • Restoration of degraded mangrove ecosystems
  • Strengthening coastal protection and biodiversity
  • Community-led plantation, protection, and monitoring
  • Livelihood integration and environmental stewardship

Scope of Work

The selected NGO partner(s) will be responsible for the following components:

1. Site Identification & Baseline Assessment

  • Identify suitable plantation sites (mudflats, degraded mangroves, coastal commons)
  • Conduct baseline assessments Conduct baseline assessments to ensure accountability, including documentation of site conditions, plantation suitability, and restoration feasibility.
  • Coordinate with Forest Department / local authorities for necessary permissions

2. Community Mobilisation & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Conduct village-level consultations with coastal communities, fisherfolk, SHGs, and Panchayats
  • Identify and mobilise local community members for plantation and protection activities
  • Ensure participation of women and marginalised groups

3. Nursery Development & Sapling Procurement

  • Establish or source mangrove nurseries (local species only)
  • Ensure healthy sapling production as per ecological guidelines
  • Maintain nursery records and survival tracking

4. Mangrove Plantation & Restoration

  • Execute plantation activities using appropriate scientific techniques
  • Follow region-specific spacing, species mix, and seasonal timing
  • Implement assisted natural regeneration (ANR) wherever feasible

5. Protection, Maintenance & Survival Assurance

  • Ensure protection of plantation sites through community watch groups
  • Conduct gap-filling, fencing (if required), and maintenance activities
  • Target a minimum 70-80% sapling survival rate

6. Capacity Building & Awareness

  • Conduct trainings on mangrove ecology, climate change, and conservation
  • Develop community champions for long-term stewardship
  • Conduct school and youth awareness programmes

7. Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting

  • Implement a basic MIS for plantation, survival rate, and community participation
  • Submit monthly and quarterly progress reports
  • Support geo-tagging, photo documentation, and impact narratives

8. Sustainability & Exit Strategy

  • Develop community-based protection and monitoring mechanisms
  • Link mangrove conservation with sustainable livelihoods (where feasible)
  • Facilitate long-term ownership beyond the project period

Eligibility Criteria

Interested organisations must meet the following criteria:

  • Registered NGO/Trust / Society with a minimum of 2 years of operational experience
  • Proven experience in mangrove plantation, coastal restoration, or wetland conservation
  • Strong grassroots presence and community mobilisation capability
  • Experience working with Forest Departments, local governance institutions, or CSR projects
  • Capacity to manage field operations, documentation, and reporting
  • Proven track record in successfully implementing mangrove plantation, coastal restoration, or related environmental conservation projects.
