About the Organization

The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy (“Vidhi”) is an independent think tank doing legal research to make better laws and improve governance for the public good. Vidhi is committed to producing legal research of the highest standard with the aim of informing public debate and contributing to improved governance. Vidhi works with Ministries of the Government of India and State Governments, as well as other public institutions, providing research and drafting support at various stages of law-making. Vidhi also conducts and freely disseminates independent research in areas of legal reform which it believes is critical to India’s future.

Job Description

The Climate & Ecosystems team at Vidhi primarily works towards strengthening nature conservation through law. It is working to enable an ecosystem for legal and policy reforms in the conservation sector. The team undertakes original research and works in close association with various government and non-government stakeholders.

In this regard, Vidhi is seeking an Advocacy Officer. The Advocacy Officer will play a key role in advancing the team’s advocacy and engagement strategy with policymakers, civil society partners, funders, media, and the broader public. The position offers the opportunity to lead impactful initiatives, build partnerships, and amplify the team’s work in driving legal and policy reforms for stronger conservation outcomes. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the design and implementation of the team’s advocacy strategy, including dissemination plans and stakeholder-specific messaging to advance legal and policy reforms in conservation.
  • Develop and apply frameworks for strategically measuring, evaluating and maximizing the impact of advocacy initiatives.
  • Develop and adapt research outputs into accessible communication products suitable for different public-facing platforms, including policy briefs, newsletters, press releases, and digital campaigns, to enhance outreach and stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist in organizing, documenting, and reporting on convenings such as roundtables, consultations, and conferences.
  • Oversee and coordinate the team’s digital platforms to ensure timely updates and consistent advocacy messaging.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as needed to support the team’s advocacy and communications objectives.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University.
  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrable work experience in advocacy, communications, stakeholder engagement, or related responsibilities.
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills with ability to translate complex research into accessible formats
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills;
  • Basic proficiency with multi-media design applications  (eg Powerpoint, Canva, video editing, etc)

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree in law/social sciences/humanities or other related fields;
  • Experience working with CSOs with familiarity in environmental or other social justice sectors;
  • Experience in interacting with government and civil society stakeholders;
  • Experience in organising multi-stakeholder events;
  • Training in qualitative research methods (focus group discussions, surveys, interviews).
