About the Organization

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is an autonomous international organization for cooperation in and implementation of disaster risk reduction and building climate resilience in Asia and the Pacific. It was established in 1986 as a regional disaster preparedness center (DMC) in Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand. It has grown its activities over the past three decades and in 2005, ADPC's international Charter was signed by nine founding member countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The Charter was put into effect in 2018 through the ratification by all the founding members. As of January 2020, ADPC is operating as an autonomous international organization governed by the Board of Trustees.

Job Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for the following:

  • Support in identifying youth and women leaders in the sphere of water governance across the Ganges-Brahmaputra and Meghna basin related to community groups in Nepal, India, and Bangladesh.
  • Support in preparing a cohort of women and youth leaders to advocate for improved water governance and build climate resilience.
  • Support the capacity development of women and youth leaders through training through the e-modules.
  • Strengthened cooperation, collaboration, and accountability across and between the transboundary GBM basin area.
  • Support integration of gender, youth, and human rights considerations into the water governance guidelines.
  • Support coordination and compiling presentations based on the findings and summaries on the considerations of inclusive water governance guidelines across the GBM basin and for the TWGs.
  • Any other work assigned by the Project Director.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in environmental, climate sciences, or a relevant discipline would be preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the development sector or transboundary water governance or climate adaptation in the South Asian Region.
  • Experience in research, preparation of technical reports, e-modules, strategies for women and youth, Water governance guidelines reports, and other relevant knowledge products.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience in coordination with partners, technical experts, and advisory groups.
  • Similar work experience in Government/INGO/bilateral or multilateral
  • development partner-funded projects is preferable.
  • Demonstrated ability and plan and organize work and time independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented work style, and experience in working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong desire to learn, and undertake new challenges, must be a creative problem-solver, must have self-confidence, willing to work hard, and to deliver quality work.
