Job Description

We are looking for a strategic and creative Communications Lead to anchor SPRF’s public engagement, visibility, and brand narrative. This role involves developing and executing SPRF’s overall communication strategy — ensuring that our work reaches the right audiences through the right platforms, with clarity and consistency.

As Communications Lead, you will manage external communications across digital, media, and institutional platforms, and work closely with both the research and design teams to shape how SPRF’s work is presented and received.

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Communication and Content

• Develop and implement SPRF’s communication strategy across digital, print, and media platforms.
• Lead the planning and rollout of thematic campaigns, report launches, or research-linked activities.
• Edit and oversee the production of external-facing content (newsletters, articles, press notes, etc.)
• Ensure alignment between SPRF’s research outputs and public messaging.

Digital Presence and Audience Engagement

• Management of SPRF’s website (front and back end and vendor coordination), blog, and social media handles
• Work with the design team to produce engaging visual and multimedia content.
• Monitor engagement metrics, audience growth, and user behaviour to optimise strategy.

Media and Institutional Visibility

• Build and maintain relationships with media professionals, editors, and content platforms.
• Identify opportunities for thought leadership (e.g., op-eds, podcasts, interviews, panel participation)
• Support outreach to academic and civil society networks in collaboration with the partnerships team

Event Development, Management, and Curation

• Design and curate public and closed-door events including panel discussions, dialogues, roundtables, and report launches
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on event themes, formats, and participant curation
• Oversee end-to-end event execution — from concept notes and speaker outreach to promotion, logistics, and post-event documentation
• Ensure that events align with SPRF’s strategic objectives and contribute to its thought leadership and visibility

Team and Project Management

• Supervise associate communications staff, interns, and external vendors (as applicable)
• Coordinate with research teams on publication timelines and communication rollouts.
• Maintain SPRF’s communications calendar, archives, and engagement reports,

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• 2-3 years of experience in strategic communications, journalism, media, or public policy
• Excellent writing, editing, and content development skills
• Strong understanding of digital platforms, audience building, and public engagement
• Prior experience translating complex ideas or research into accessible formats
• Project management experience and ability to work across teams and deadlines

Nice to Have:

• Familiarity with the policy and research ecosystem in India
• Comfort with basic design workflows (e.g., giving feedback, overseeing visual production)
• Experience with media outreach or working in a newsroom or think tank environment
• Interest in shaping public narratives around key social and political issues
