Job Description

The Educator, ArtLabs will lead and facilitate impactful, art-based learning sessions in classrooms, promoting creative expression and social-emotional development among children. This role will involve regular observation and documentation of classroom dynamics, student engagement. This role will shape a holistic growth of the children by driving a community building movement in our model school, thereby creating strong evidence on art and SEL in classrooms.

Job Responsibilities

Facilitation and Evidence Building:

  • Regularly visit our model school to facilitate joyful and inclusive art sessions for children from Grade 1 to Grade 8 for the entire academic year
  • Adapt and personalize existing art class plans to suit the unique needs, energy, and context of each classroom, ensuring learning outcomes are met.
  • Create an environment that encourages self-expression, creativity, and emotional safety by integrating your own artistic practices, experiences, and empathy into facilitation.
  • Document key insights, classroom anecdotes, and behavioral observations to establish a robust evidence base for child outcomes.
  • Design charts, props, and other visual teaching tools to elevate session delivery and classroom engagement.
  • Maintain and update a classroom dashboard to monitor facilitation quality and student progress across the academic year.
  • Skilled at guiding students through reflection and discussion to deepen learning and self-awareness.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Develop and nurture meaningful relationships with key school stakeholders, including principals, teachers, and parents, to ensure trust, alignment, and long-term collaboration.
  • Maintain regular communication with school authorities and internal teams to ensure consistent and smooth delivery of SArC sessions throughout the academic year.
  • Identify and coordinate with artists, volunteers, and creative professionals to bring enriching art experiences to classrooms.
  • Explore relevant social themes and lead the conceptualization and execution of school-wide or community installations that allow children to express their voices through art.
  • Plan and anchor meaningful school visits and engagement experiences for funders, supporters, and corporate volunteering groups, ensuring alignment with program goals and classroom integrity.

Classroom observation and documentation:

  • Observe and identify children’s Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skill development during art sessions, document these insights accurately, and experiment with facilitation techniques that actively enhance SEL growth.
  • Capture meaningful moments and key insights through field notes, photos (with prior consent), and short videos to highlight creative teaching strategies and student expression.
  • Curate and maintain a comprehensive repository of effective facilitation techniques, classroom routines, art-integrated activities, and reflective tools to support continuous learning and improvement across the program.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • A graduate degree from a recognized university in the fields of education, arts, child development, or related fields is required. A post-graduation will be considered an added advantage.
  • Must have a minimum of 3-4 years of robust experience in teaching and classroom facilitation ideally in creative learning environments or arts-integrated settings.
  • Prior experience in low-income or underserved school communities will be highly valued.
  • Proven ability to create inclusive, engaging, and safe classroom spaces for children.
  • Strong understanding of child-centered pedagogy, curriculum planning, and experiential learning. Ability to translate educational theory into effective and creative teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated capacity to assess classroom practices, draw insights from qualitative and quantitative data, and use this reflection to adapt and enhance learning experiences for students.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate meaningfully with children, school staff, community members, and internal teams.
  • Deep alignment with Saturday Art Class’s vision of leveraging the arts for educational equity.
  • A strong commitment to working in dynamic, community-based learning environments with patience, integrity, and a learner’s mindset.
