Job Summary:

The RMLE unit will operationalise the said project. Field Patho Lab Technician will be responsible for clinical data collection on VL and PKDL cases, Blood collection and serology and proper labelling and data entry of the sample collected as per laid down protocol of VL transmission dynamics. The incumbent will be responsible for all field related and sampling related operations.

Sustained surveillance and rapid response to leishmaniasis (VL) outbreaks will be essential to ensure the long-term success of the elimination programme. Validation of a suite of laboratory assays, along with rapid epidemiological investigations, will help to provide a tool kit for future deployment as a part of post-elimination surveillance.
Piramal foundation has been mandated to conduct the assessment and develop the said tool to sustain the effective management of VL outbreak responses in the post elimination phase.

This role will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Field Patho Lab Technician will include the following but not be restricted to:

  • Understanding the VL TD protocol.
  • Blood drawing, laboratory investigations and other project related work.
  • Conduct experiments under defined conditions.
  • Identification of sand fly species, sorting of sand fly collected by Light traps and storing.
  • Careful maintenance of forms and other scientific data and handing over to supervisor and data entry
  • Careful transportation of specimen to nearest Laboratory
  • Dissection of midgut as per the requirement
  • Proper maintenance of record
  • Entry of data into computer on regular basis
  • Any other duty assigned by supervisor.

Desirable Qualification & Experience

  • Graduate in any specialization (any science stream is preferred)
  • 12th pass in science subjects with any one of the following:

(i) Two years Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or

(ii) One-year Diploma in Med Laboratory Technology with one-year laboratory experience in a recognized organization/institution or

(iii) Two years laboratory experience in a government recognized organization/institution. *B.Sc., degree shall be treated as three years’ experience.

  • Candidate must have good eye sight (6/6 or 6/9) vision
  • Candidate must have knowledge of blood collection and serology.
  • Ability to work in early and late hours of the day.
  • Experience of working with community will be preferred.

Preferred:

  • Proven experience as Lab Technician or relevant position
  • Excellent communication skill in Hindi/local languages
    • Aspirants should have valid driving license along with own motor bike.
    • Prior knowledge of Kala-azar and said works will be preferred.

Experience in operating electrical and nonelectrical laboratory equipment and potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, infectious bacteria, biohazards etc.)

Essential Skills:

  • Aspirant must have high sense of responsibility and integrity.
  • Good articulation skill
  • Good hands in blood drawing and experimental works
  • High learning agility
  • Ability to work at high pressure environment – stretched working hours and flexible schedules in case of requirement.
  • Ability to travel very extensively within assigned village/blocks and to other locations as and when required on his vehicle.
  • Aspirants must be very dedicated, committed, hardworking, honest, and able to work with minimal supervision even in the night hour in villages.
  •  Ability to read and write English.
  • Basic computer literacy
