Background:
The Global Survivors Fund (GSF) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Its mission is to enhance access to reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, thus responding to a gap long identified by survivors. GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. GSF advocates for duty-bearers and the international community to develop reparations programmes. It also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support for designing reparations programmes. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work.
GSF Reparation Praxis Hub:
The Reparations Praxis Hub focuses on examining transversal key topics relevant for reparation, identifying and creating best practice through knowledge sharing, and the creation and support of communities of practices on matters related to conflict-related sexual violence and/or reparation. The intern will be asked to support the Head of Reparations Praxis Hub Unit and the Senior Research Officer in their functions across the mentioned-above priorities, as well as ad-hoc work on specific countries and/or themes.
Role Summary:
The intern will be responsible for supporting the Head of Reparations Praxis Hub and the Senior Research Officer, conducting research, drafting, editing and formatting different documents.
Position Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following activities:
- Support the Head of Reparations Praxis Hub and the Senior Research Officer in carrying out research and legal analysis on key aspects of domestic reparations programmes;
- Support the drafting, editing, formatting and translation of documents in diverse areas of the Reparation Praxis Hub;
- Assist in conducting factual, legal research and key informant interviews on domestic reparation programmes;
- Support the work of the Reparation Praxis Hub on Key Performance Indicators;
- Support editing and designing graphics (PowerPoint presentations, Canva visuals etc);
- Assist the team with other tasks as might be required.
Position Requirements:
Education and Experience:
The position is open to students currently enrolled in a master’s programme in human rights, international law, or a related discipline. Please note a tripartite agreement with the university is required for this internship.
Other Requirements:
- Interest and/or work experience on one or more of the following areas: reparations, transitional justice, conflict-related sexual violence, women's rights;
- Excellent research and analytical skills;
- Ability to draft high quality texts, briefs, or other documents;
- Strong teamwork skills;
- Good computer skills;
- Full working proficiency in English;
- Knowledge of other languages such as French, Serbian, or Spanish, French is an asset.
