Sense International India, also known as Sense India, was established in 1997 as the first and only non-governmental organisation to support the development of comprehensive services for people with deafblindness and multiple disabilities throughout India. Sense India works in partnership with persons with deafblindness, their families, carers and professionals to ensure that everyone facing challenges because of deafblindness has access to advice, opportunities and support. We work with local, national and international partners, including governments to provide innovative and practical solutions.

Job Description

Working closely with the Manager- Finance, the Officer-Accounts will be responsible for maintaining a robust accounting system as per Sense International India’s policies and procedures. The post holder will be an important member of the finance team and also work closely with other team members (and consultants) as required.

Job Responsibilities

Accounting & Finance

  • Prepare vouchers for all transactions undertaken by the organization and process cash as well as bank payments.
  • To undertake all work related to the preparation of banking transactions such as preparation of cheques, filling in pay-in slips, online transactions, legal payments, etc.
  • To keep track of all contracts and insurance details of the organization.
  • To support the preparation for the internal & annual audit.
  • Advance settlement and coordination with staff and other relevant parties.
  • Maintain all voucher files and make sure that all supporting documents are attached to the face voucher for internal & external audits.
  • Acknowledge and deal with routine correspondence that the financial team has to deal with
  • Monitor the expenditure of partner organisations made on projects supported by Sense India by project visits, quarterly reporting and ledger review.
  • Support to the Manager– Finance in preparation of the organization’s MIS.

General

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and ensure respect for, observance of and adherence to Sense International India’s confidentiality policy by all staff.
  • Ensure highest level of financial management ethics to avoid fraud and misappropriation of funds.
  • Contribute to the development of the role as the organization develops.
  • Undertake any task within the jobholder’s skills and abilities as may be requested from time to time.
  • The post holder will be expected to attend meetings and be involved in other activities at irregular hours as required.

Additional responsibilities

  • To work closely with the relevant staff across Sense International (India) to ensureeffective cooperation and collaboration.
  • Any other work as agreed with the Manager – Finance

Staff management

  • The post holder may be responsible for leading and line management of skilled team members in the finance division and may be other posts as the organisation develops.
  • Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
  • Graduation in Accounts as a primary subject
  • At least two years of experience in accounting, cash management, and finance functions
  • Knowledge and experience in operating Tally software and knowledge of its various functions for report generation
  • Ability to plan own work, setting priorities and completing it under pressure or when faced with competing demands.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable requirements

  • Fluent oral and written correspondence skills for interaction with stakeholders.
  • Experience in accounting and finance functions in a National/International NGO
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and legislations such as income tax, Bombay Public Trusts Act, FCRA, and other regulations governing Non-Government Organizations
  • An understanding of the development sector
  • Candidates having a post-graduation in Accounts will be preferred.
