Job Description

We seek to hire talented and motivated predoctoral Fellows to support Prof. Donald Davis (Professor of Economics and International Affairs, Columbia University; Distinguished Fellow, ICPP). This position is ideal for graduating seniors or master’s degree students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Davis, co-authors on his research projects, and the ICPP team to support research projects in urban economics,

international trade, economic geography, and regional economics. This is a full-time, fixed-term position designed to prepare promising candidates for doctoral programs in economics by providing hands-on experience in empirical and theoretical research methods

Job Responsibilities

Research Support:

• Support in research projects in areas including urbanization, international trade, market scale, inequality, and the spatial distribution of economic activity.
• Conduct literature reviews to deepen understanding of prior work and research methodologies.
• Investigate and assemble data sets relevant to research projects.
• Contribute to the development and coding of model simulations and statistical analyses.

Data Analysis and Literature Review:

• Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on urban economic theory and trade, and synthesize findings to inform ongoing projects.
• As AI is becoming more important to research, familiarity with prominent platforms and especially interest in cultivating approaches by which research can harness its power is desirable.
• Work with statistical software (e.g., R, STATA) to analyze large datasets and interpret results.

Technical Support:

• Prepare background materials contributing to research submissions.
• Assist on other relevant tasks as and when required. interpret results.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• Master’s degree in economics, urban studies, international trade, or a closely related field with a strong quantitative background. Preference will be given to candidates with familiarity with urban economics, international trade, or econometrics
• Demonstrated proficiency in statistical programming using software such as STATA and/or R. Preferred familiarity with data visualization tools.
• Evidence of strong analytical and empirical skills, as showcased through academic coursework, research projects, or thesis work.
• Previous experience of working as RA is highly desirable.
• Keen interest in academic research with an ambition to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics or a related discipline.
• The ability to work at a high intellectual level with growing independence and initiative.
